Position Summary
Members of the Lower School faculty are responsible for planning and delivering instruction that is attentive to individual students’ intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual needs in accordance with the school’s philosophy, and for establishing and maintaining a positive learning environment where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for academic growth. 

Teachers of grades PreK – 2 strive to create an environment that encourages joyful learning through inquiry and supportive instruction utilizing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), workshop models guiding language comprehension in reading and writing units of study, the Institute for Multisensory Education’s Orton-Gillingham structured literacy program for phonics instruction, and Singapore Math methodology. Teachers appreciate each child as a unique individual, building on interests and igniting curiosity about the world.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with co-teacher to plan and deliver differentiated classroom instruction
  • Apply a range of strategies to successfully manage a classroom
  • Work with grade level team on curriculum development and school initiatives
  • Record and maintain school, classroom, and students' information such as attendance, student files, referral information, progress reports
  • Participate in departmental/division meetings, planning projects, activities, and school related evening and weekend programs, as necessary
  • Communicate with parents and professional colleagues on a regular basis
  • Integrate technology into the teaching and learning process 
  • Assist students in developing self-discipline and a sense of responsibility
  • Participate in supervisory responsibilities as assigned 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Record of successful teaching
  • Willingness to work with a range of learning abilities
  • Experience integrating technology into teaching practices, including Google Suite for Education, preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a team of educators
  • Strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive classroom environment
  • Commitment to a growth mindset and continuous professional development

Preferred Experience

  • International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme
  • Reading and writing workshop structure
  • IMSE or Orton-Gillingham methodology for phonics instruction
  • Singapore Methods Math
  • Google Suite for Education

Physical Demands:  Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, and for the majority of the work day. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds.
