Under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Operations, in accordance with scheduled or periodic instructions, the Trades Staff member performs skilled and semi-skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, painting, pressuring washing, minor electrical repair and renovation/alteration of buildings and structures.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assemble, repair and install structures on campus, performing quality work and practicing work safety at all times.

  2. Notify supervisor of emergencies and safety concerns immediately.

  3. Provide emergency on-call service for after-hours emergencies.

  4. Demonstrate ability to comprehend and perform all tasks assigned

  5. Ability to safely operate power equipment, power tools, school owned vehicles and powered utility carts while performing assigned duties

  6. Remove debris and trash

  7. Fuel school vehicles

  8. Maintain equipment in proper working condition – reporting defects to proper personnel

  9. Perform other duties as assigned including load sharing with grounds, housekeeping, set-ups, overtime and special events as required

  10. Obey all safety rules, policies and procedures set by the school, which may be modified from time to time

  11. Perform maintenance duties such as painting, pressure cleaning, changing light bulbs, moving furniture and other objects, keeping all directional and traffic signs clean, removing rusts stains from buildings and sidewalks as necessary and assist other maintenance staff as needed with other related duties and projects.

  12. Must be willing to work overtime with sufficient notice and/or in emergency cases when sufficient notice is not possible.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience

A thorough knowledge and understanding of established best practices within the building maintenance industry; experienced in the proper methods used in carpentry, plumbing, painting, pressuring washing, minor electrical repair and renovation/alteration of buildings and structures.

 

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to safely operate power equipment, power tools, motor vehicles and powered utility carts.
  • Has a strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical activities for sustained periods of time including: lifting, pushing, pulling, reach overhead and carrying heavy objects and/or equipment. 
  • Ability to work in various physical positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time. Exert maximum muscle force and have the capability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support lifting up to 50 pounds or more repeatedly or continuously without limitation. 
  • Ability to work in inclement and variable weather conditions for extended periods of time. 
  • Follow verbal and written instructions. 
  • Possess good communication skills.
  • Must hold a valid and current Florida driver’s license

 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 

 

Education and Experience

Two years of experience in the building maintenance and construction field.
