POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  The Program Director of Youth Development will focus primarily on Afterschool and offsite Afterschool locations. This role will provide leadership and be responsible for managing the quality and execution of programs such as Afterschool, recruiting, training, and leadership development to all assigned staff. This role will support and assist other YMCA programs such as day camp, teens and family programs where needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
  • Provides staff leadership to the Youth Development Programs working directly with coordinators and part time staff in afterschool, youth sports, parent/child, summer day camp. 
  • Ensures program growth goals are met for the Warlick Family YMCA youth programs.
  • Works with marketing department and other Y staff to market and promote youth programs
  • Develops and controls department budgets related to the position.
  • Provides staff leadership to all afterschool sites and the leads at offsite locations
  • Hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Facilitates communication and provides leadership. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
  • Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations and on-going training of staff.
  • Coordinates special events and activities for families as well as supports branch events /special programs.
  • Works directly with the personnel at the offsite locations to ensure a copasetic relationship 
  • Manager on Duty assigned some nights and weekends
  • Provides data and reports as required for assigned programs. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training before working with consumers and on an annual basis.
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities
  • Consistently follow safety procedures during instruction, transitions, and emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, recreation, business or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certifications required.
  • Child Abuse Prevention Training upon hire and annually
  • CDL Preferred
