The Program Director must be responsible for supervising all aspects of the Surgical Technology program, including the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, compliance, development, implementation, and general effectiveness of the program, including instructor supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains programmatic accreditation.
- Interviews and screens instructor applicants.
- Evaluates instructor performance through class observations, student feedback, meetings, and individual counseling.
- Attends and represents the Surgical Technology department at local, state, and national meetings sponsored by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST™).
- Creates, revises, and modifies curricula in alignment with the current edition of the AST Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology.
- Conducts orientation for newly hired instructors.
- Conducts orientation to new students and staff both to the department and the College.
- Assists instructors in student scheduling.
- Conducts staff meetings.
- Advises students upon recommendation of their instructors.
- Supervises quality assurance of the programs by both internal/external tools (e.g. surveys).
- Reviews, recommends, and implements selection of textbooks, instructional aids, instructional resources and equipment.
- Interfaces regularly with other departments, especially Admissions, Financial Aid, Placement, and the Registrar.
- Conducts and directs in-house instructors meetings.
- Ensures that monthly student progress reports are completed by instructors in a timely manner.
- Ensures that the department staff adheres to policy and procedure.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
