GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

MASS Precision is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Cost Engineer to support our manufacturing operations by providing accurate cost analysis, driving pricing improvements, and supporting profitability goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing cost estimation and cost control, including experience with purchased parts, supplier negotiation, and target pricing. This role is critical in helping identify cost drivers, improve margins, and enhance the overall efficiency of our production processes.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze product and component costs, including materials, labor, overhead, and purchased parts.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Production teams to develop and maintain accurate cost models.
  • Evaluate and challenge supplier quotes and drive negotiations to achieve better pricing without compromising quality or delivery.
  • Work closely with Program Managers and Finance to ensure alignment with target pricing and margin goals.
  • Support quoting and new business development by providing accurate cost estimates for new and existing products.
  • Identify and lead cost reduction initiatives across materials, sourcing, and manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor and analyze cost variances and work with relevant departments to implement corrective actions.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to cost structures, quote packages, and pricing analyses.
  • Support “should cost” analysis and benchmarking efforts to better inform purchasing and sourcing strategies.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • 3–5 years of experience in cost engineering, cost analysis, or a related role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and procurement practices.
  • Strong attention to detail is a must
  • Experience in supplier negotiations and purchasing analysis.
  • Proficient in cost estimation tools and ERP systems (EPICOR experience a plus).
  • Self-driven with the ability to take initiative and drive improvements independently.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Experience in precision sheet metal, machining, or electromechanical assembly environments.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and cost reduction strategies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
