Regular, part-time (up to 25 hours per week), hourly and non-exempt staff position.
Position Overview:
The UCO Division of Communications and Public Affairs includes the offices of University Communications, Photographic Services and KUCO Classical Radio. Division staff help effectively connect the university’s external and internal audiences to the Central experience, advancing the university mission and vision and ultimately encouraging enrollment and support.
The Communications Assistant is responsible for a variety of administrative duties that support the division. This position reports to the Business Manager and works up to 25 hours per week. Actual hours will be arranged with supervisor upon hiring.
Job Duties:

Assists with the management of open records requests.

Manages Brand Review and signage requests.

Greets and screens guests in the reception area.

Answers and screens phone calls to the main office.

Processing incoming and outgoing mail.

Responds to routine requests for information and refers more complex requests to appropriate staff members.

Manages office supply orders.

Manages university promotional item inventory.

Assists with scheduling and other duties for the UCO mascot program.

Scans and clips relevant news articles.

Maintains media distribution list.

May assist with copy editing, distributing news releases, event planning, managing calendars and appointments and other division activities.

May have contact with sensitive, complex and confidential information.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience Required:
Requires general education or vocational training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related field (or in the process of pursing a related degree) preferred but not required. Experience in a higher education environment preferred.
