About the Role
The Marketing Strategist will play a key role in advancing the mission of the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) by leading the development and execution of strategic, integrated marketing initiatives. This role will support IALR’s economic transformation goals by enhancing brand visibility, expanding outreach and driving engagement through innovative marketing strategies. The Marketing Strategist will collaborate across departments and divisions to ensure alignment with organizational priorities while also providing leadership on campaign performance, analytics and continuous improvement.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Development
    • Plan, execute and evaluate comprehensive marketing strategies to promote IALR’s services, programs and events—including KPIs, metrics, goals and targets.
    • Develop and execute data-driven marketing strategies within Salesforce (CRM) Marketing Cloud (automated customer engagement platform), including audience segmentation, customer journey mapping, personalized campaign creation and performance analytics to optimize engagement, conversion and ROI across
      digital channels.
    • Identify opportunities to grow and enhance IALR’s regional and state presence using data-driven insights.
    • Support strategic planning by gathering and analyzing market research, trends and audience behavior.
    • Stay current on industry trends, best practices and emerging technologies to enhance marketing efforts.
  • Marketing Tactics
    • Develop and execute digital marketing via various platforms, including SEO/SEM, email, SMS, social media, etc., ensuring alignment with brand standards and goals.
    • Coordinate and/or develop compelling digital, print and other tactics for marketing campaigns and projects (blogs, case studies, promotional graphics/ads, website landing pages, marketing collateral, social media posts, photo galleries, videos, etc.).
    • Collaborate with team members to enhance website performance and
      user experience.
  • Campaign Development & Analytics
    • Coordinate the design, implementation and evaluation of strategic marketing campaigns, tracking effectiveness through KPIs and analytics tools.
    • Monitor and report campaign performance, making data-informed recommendations to optimize results.
  • Team Collaboration: 
    • Work cross-functionally with internal teams (advanced learning, research, conference center, etc.) to support marketing goals and initiatives.
  • Event & Community Engagement
    • Provide marketing support for IALR-hosted events, conferences, workshops and outreach activities, including advertising/sponsorships, branded giveaways and apparel, and exhibit signage and materials.
    • Serve as a knowledgeable campus representative by occasionally guiding tours and engaging with community stakeholders.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Work Location
We are looking for staff to work onsite in Danville, VA.   

 

The Ideal Candidate
•    Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or a related field required.
•    At least three years of experience in marketing strategy, campaign management or 
related roles.
•    Experience working with cross-functional teams and in fast-paced 
environments preferred.
•    Strong verbal, written and visual communication skills.
•    Advanced understanding of marketing methods, including analytics and SEO/SEM.
•    Proficiency in marketing platforms and tools (e.g., website CMS, social media, Google Analytics, CRM marketing platform, email marketing).
•    Excellent project management, organizational and multitasking abilities.
•    Strong interpersonal skills with a team-oriented, collaborative mindset.
•    Familiarity with graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) is preferred.
•    Working knowledge of photography and videography is preferred.
 

Essential Physical Requirements:
•    Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
•    Ability to work under pressure, manage interruptions, and meet tight deadlines.
•    Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers and keyboards.
•    Ability to travel between buildings and occasional off-site travel as needed.
•    Light physical activity may be required.

 

Salary & Benefits
IALR will offer a salary of $55,000- $65,000 plus applicable shift differential.
