The Personal Attendant (DSP) reports directly to the In2Vision team management and are responsible for the daily care of our clients. Attendants are to assist, train, and promote independence in the following areas:
- Communication Skills (provide instruction to the client to access facilitated communication devices which may include Braille, Sign Language, finger spelling, augmentative devices, development of adaptations as per choice, mannerism, etc.)
- Mobility Training (provide instruction and training to the client on how to access public transportation, familiarizing themselves with bus routes, DMV materials, obtaining bus passes, etc.)
- Education Training (provide instruction on how to enroll in classes, apply for financial aid, school/class selection, maintain attendance, complete assignments, encourage, etc.)
- Money Management (provide instruction and training how to budget, make change, purchase, count, comparisons)
- Self Help Skills (promote confidence and independence, tend to basic hygiene tasks, ensure they are dressed appropriately for weather and environment, etc.)
- Environmental Awareness and Public Adaptation ( provide instruction on how to safely and confidently access public professionals, develop natural supports in all settings)
- Personal and Public Safety Skills (provide instruction and training in recognizing stranger danger safety skills, recognition of safe vs. unsafe environments, street safety skills)
- Emergency Preparedness (provide instruction and training on how to remain safe in the event of an emergency such as fire, earthquake, and any other emergency. Ensure that they are aware of the use and purpose of 911 and emergency services)
- Community Resources Awareness (provide instruction and support in most advantageous access of all possible public/community resources)
- Health and Fitness (provide instruction, training and support with diet programs, exercise, medical conditions, making healthy food choices, etc.)
- Self Advocacy Skills (provide instruction and training to ensure the client is aware of their rights, identifying when their rights are being violated, use of legal rights, self reliance, self esteem, empowerment, etc.)
- Benefit Planning( provide training and assistance with accessing Medi-Cal benefits, applying for SSI, Medi-Cal, assist and train the client how to make appointments, cancel appointments, attend appointments, etc. Immigration/citizen process)
- Volunteer Activities (focus on consumers individualized needs and interest to develop or maintain volunteer activities, establish viable job skills in preparation for paid employment, attendance, voicing questions and concerns, etc.)
- Provide training and instruction to shop for groceries and basic hygiene needs
- Supervise clients while on various outings
- Provide training and Instruction how to use a telephone, cell phone, internet, etc.
- Participate in development of the individual program plan (IPP), and or individual service plan (ISP)and or individual educational plan (IEP)
- Communicate on regular basis with In2vision Administration, client and or families and other service providers and agencies as needed
- Report Special incidents according to In2vision’s policy and procedures
- Provide training, instruction, and support in “skill” development relating to a client’s needs
- Ensure that the client receives professional, quality services in a safe and meaningful manner
- Teach clients how to increase their activities of daily living at home and in the community
- Monitors services and clients progress in relationship to establish goals and objectives per clients plans
- Medication handling (reminds, hand, and encourage, but not ADMINISTER)
- Assist with the transferring client from wheelchair to vehicle, restroom, bed, when and if necessary
- Provide training as outlined in the client’s IPP, ISP, and or IEP
- Assist with seeking employment and volunteer activities
- Research and plan activities for each of your consumers according to their focus areas and IPP goals
- Assure the safety of the clients at all times
- Abide by the California laws such as speed limits, pulling over to text or make/take a call
- Devote your time to the client during service programming hours
- Must have back pack and binder with you at all times (provided by I2V)
- Communicate with supervisor regarding questions and concerns related to employment, hours, rates, client’s family, programs, etc.
- Attends team meetings or other training as part of continuation of education or any agency-wide training and in-service programs
- Participates or provides information in clients quarterly/semi -annual /annual meetings
- Must have a working cell phone at all times and it must be ON during work hours
- You MUST check in and out during work hours via text, call, or email
- Must respond to management within the hour of a missed call or text.
- Must complete time sheets accurately and legibly, and be signed –off by parent/consumer at all times and submit paperwork on Pay Day( see pay day schedule)
- Must complete weekly notes and other notes accurately and legibly, and be signed-off by parent/consumer at all times and submit paperwork on Pay Day
- Must submit current non- expired required documents when needed (First Aid, CPR, CPI, Car insurance, Registration, and Drivers License.)
- Must perform other related duties and assignments as required.
Working Schedule:
Employment Classification: Hourly Rate of Pay/Non Exempt Hours
Employment Status: Part Time (35 hrs/wk or less)/ Full Time (36 hrs/wk or more
Monday through Friday: Based on assigned schedule
Saturday through Sunday: Based on assigned schedule
Holiday/After Office Hours: Based on assigned schedule
