We are hiring an Import/Export Specialist to work out of our Melrose Park, IL facility.
Responsibilities:
- Call LTL, FTL, and Flatbed carriers to schedule shipments, meeting ship dates
- Monitor and record all trucks entering and leaving shipping area. Scale in and out all trucks, ensuring the weight is in line with the bills of lading and packing slips
- Maintain communication with logistics and purchasing departments regarding any shipping delays or possible retention charges
- Communicate with Logistics Manager related to any concerning discrepancies in weights and scaling in/out trucks
- Maintain communication with Customer Service and Logistics department regarding shipping dates and status of orders. Prepare ship schedule report daily
- Prepare and process import and export documentation according to customs regulations, laws, or procedures.
- Clear goods through customs and to their destinations
- Calculate duty and tariff payments owed on shipments.
- Request or compile necessary import documentation, such as customs invoices, certificates of origin, and cargo-control documents.
- Stay abreast of changes in import or export laws or regulations by reading current literature, attending meetings or conferences, or conferring with colleagues.
- Advise company on import and export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements, quotas, or other customs-related matters.
- Quote duty and tax rates on goods to be imported, based on federal tariffs and excise taxes.
- Arrange for transportation, warehousing, or product distribution of imported or exported products.
- Confer with officials in various agencies to facilitate clearance of goods through customs and quarantine.
- Provide advice on transportation options, types of carriers, or shipping routes.
- Maintain relationships with customs brokers in other ports to expedite clearing of cargo.
