Job Summary:

Under the direction of the SVP-Loan Operations, or upper management established by brand, the Underwriting Manager is responsible for all facets of the loan underwriting process. The Underwriting Manager provides oversight and direction to assigned personnel and assists with the development, design and implementation of policies and procedures impacting the underwriting of loans to ensure conformity with investor and agency standards.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Train, motivate and guide team members in all functions of underwriting, including traditional and automated underwriting requirements and brokered guidelines.
  • Build, develop and maintain an Underwriting team that delivers quality loans, accurate decisions.
  • Monitor caseloads for accuracy, quality control, underwriting, and government guidelines.
  • Follow-up on closed loan documentation to ensure compliance with all Secondary Marketing, Government and Investor demands.
  • Handle issues with borrower, loan officers, and team members.
  • Interview, hire and train underwriters.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to promote a professional team effort.
  • Conduct new hire recruitment and interviews, performance planning and reviews, disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of different loan programs.
  • Create and maintain tracking systems for loan deficiencies, quality control, and trends.
  • Attend Sales and Operations meetings, as needed.
  • Manage follow through with processor/borrower on conditions for closing per Lender/Investor requirements.
  • Maintain quality and data integrity of all loan files in adhere with policies and procedures set forth by Panorama Mortgage Group, LLC.
  • Establish and maintain KPIs and turn times as set forth by the brand CEO.
  • Communicate with brand management & Panorama Mortgage Group, LLC on training needs and issues. Manage and communicate business flow, policy decisions and procedures and regulatory and investor guideline changes to underwriting team.
  • Remain current with our Lender/Investor programs and maintain their forms for submission.
  • Keep current with investor guideline changes by reading updated bulletins and communicate to Operations and Sales.
  • Support the development, execution and management of all policies and procedures set forth by the brand and Panorama Mortgage Group, LLC.
  • Maintain KPIs & turn times as set forth by the brand CEO.
  • Review analyze and test updates to systems and the development of system projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Able to comply with the policies and procedures outlined in the Company Handbook

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Minimum 7+ years underwriting experience in mortgage banking and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years previous management experience required
  • Must have current FHA Chums/DE Underwriting ID number with a minimum of 7 years experience underwriting FHA loans.
  • Specialized in conforming, FHA and VA Programs and guidelines; and knowledge of quality control functions. VA LAPP recommended but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Dedicated and experience due diligence underwriter
  • FHA, VA, Conforming and Non-Conforming Credit Authority
  • Demonstrate an outstanding level of customer service skills
  • Thorough working knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within mortgage underwriting field.
  • Ability to work under pressure on multiple projects within deadlines
  • Ability to effectively prioritize workload and manage changes in direction.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when needed
  • Timely communication and response times according to department standards

 

Physical/Sensory Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time
  • Bend, stoop and stretch as needed
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing and or ambulating (Employee has some control over the length of time)
  • Prolonged use of computers, telephone, and other standard office equipment which includes reading, writing, listening or speaking
  • Fluency in English language (written, oral, spoken); fluency in a second language desirable
