Primary Duties and Responsibilities
This is a seasonal position. Responsible for management of the Interfaith Winter Shelter which provides temporary housing and support services for individuals experiencing homelessness during the winter months.
A. Operations
- Provide management and support to Interfaith Shelter staff.
- Provide 24-hour phone coverage along with the Director of Interim Housing on assigned nights rotating on-call phone coverage.
- Ensure staff interaction with participants is respectful and compassionate.
- Oversee Interfaith Shelter operations ensuring a safe environment for staff and participants.
- With direction from the Director of Interim Housing, manage site-specific emergencies or crises.
B. Staff Training
- Work with the Shelter Leadership team to ensure that all Interfaith Shelter Staff have been trained on the Shelter Training Manual; attend all mandatory training.
- Provide one-on-one weekly supervision sessions with assigned Supervisors.
- Provide service-focused guidance to Supervisors and Service Coordinators/Janitors; develop in-service training in collaboration with the Director of Interim Housing.
C. Staff Management:
- Participate in interviewing, hiring, and training staff in collaboration with the ECS HR Department and the Director of Interim Housing.
- Manage staff weekly schedule and ensure all shifts have adequate coverage.
- Assist in researching and responding to personnel problems to include drafting written warnings and performance plans, as assigned by the Director of Interim Housing.
- When supervising union members, follow guidelines established in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Provide crisis intervention and lead team in professional development.
D. Administration
1. Responsible for Paycom payroll functions when necessary.
2. Identify and resolve all violations of the Interfaith Shelter or ECS work rules/policies.
3. Follow policies, procedures and protocols established by any appropriate city agency or funders.
4. Manage shelter beds and ensure maximum use of the beds each evening depending on availability.
5. Conduct and give evidence at internal and external appeals or hearings.
6. Maintain sufficient first aid and other supplies at workstation.
7. Oversee maintenance of operations log, department records, statistical records, and other documentation, including computerized records.
8. Comply with requirements of the confidentiality and client record policies.
9. Inventory supplies needed and inform appropriate personnel when re-order is necessary.
E. MEETINGS
1. Attend weekly Shelter Leadership Meeting and other meetings as requested by the Director of Interim Housing.
2. Attend Shift Change Meetings during scheduled shifts.
