Job Title: Fitness Attendant

Job Status: Part Time – Non-Exempt

Division: Park and Recreation Services

Primary Work Location: Community Recreation Center – Fitness Center

Reports To: Wellness Membership Manager

Supervisory Responsibility: None

   Position Summary                                                                                                                          

The Fitness Attendant will be responsible for creating a positive member experience by providing a superior level of customer service to Wheeling Park District fitness members and guests. Flexible schedule; various shifts on weekdays and weekends as designated by Wellness Membership Manager or Wellness Manager as necessary.

Essential Job Duties                                                                                                                                       

  • Maintain and promote excellent fitness member relations and open communication with all current and potential new fitness members; handle any adverse situations with members.
  • Greet and direct members, guests and visitors in person and on the phone while answering fitness area questions and providing pertinent information specific to the fitness area.
  • Point of Sale and membership sale processing.
  • Assist in administrative support tasks as assigned including, but not limited to, general reporting, cleanliness of fitness floor, folding towels, etc.
  • Conduct orientation for new members and conduct tours for external visitors and potential members.
  • Accurately audit and monitor attendance and usage of member population.
  • Assist in maintaining an accurate inventory of all fitness center supplies.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe fitness floor, cleaning and checking equipment and reporting any repairs or maintenance to both Wellness Membership Manager and Wellness Manager, performing assigned cleaning tasks and organizing fitness equipment.
  • Maintaining operation of fitness center (opening, closing operations).
  • Attend all staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
  • Support and exhibit the established organizational values of respect, communications, integrity, innovation, recognition, continuous learning, fun, empowerment and people.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned by the Wellness Managers.
  • Act as Manager on Duty in absence of Wellness Membership Manager/Wellness Manager.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.
  • Attend and participate in all schedule in service training and safety programs.

Qualifications

Position Requirements                                                                                                                      

Ability to deal with guests and staff diplomatically, handle conflict appropriately and answer questions regarding the Health and Fitness operations. Genuine interest in Fitness/Wellness. Ability to exercise good judgment. General computer skills. Such as Word, Excel, and RecTrac software. 

   Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrate consistent attendance and on-time arrival.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak in English.
  • CPR/AED certification or be able to earn within 60 days.

  • Required to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, twist, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tool, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to walk on uneven grounds.
  • Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities are required and include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions                                                                                                                                      

  • Most activities will be performed indoors.
  • Driving to other park facilities will require the worker to be outside.
  • Employee may be exposed to cleaning agents and toner chemicals.
