Klein & Hoffman is seeking a talented and hardworking Architectural Engineering Associate with a passion for unique buildings and problem-solving abilities to add to our team. This position will be responsible for providing services in the following areas: building diagnostics and rehabilitation of building facades, roofs, plazas, waterproofing and windows.
In accordance with Illinois pay transparency laws, we are providing a good faith estimate of the salary range for this position. The anticipated salary for this role is $79,000 -$125,000 based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and internal equity. Employees may also be eligible for additional compensation, including bonuses and benefits. This estimate is subject to change based on business needs and market conditions. This position is considered a salaried exempt position; technical salaried exempt staff are eligible to earn additional compensation for authorized billable hours in excess of 40 billable hours at 1.0 times the hourly rate.
Primary Responsibilities
- Ability to review existing drawings to understand building enclosure design.
- Perform investigation, condition assessment, and develop repair design of building enclosure components including building façades consisting of masonry, concrete, wood, and steel, window systems, curtainwalls, stucco, EIFS, low and steep slope roofing systems, plaza waterproofing and paving necessary.
- Perform on-site surveys to document existing conditions and determine cause(s) of problems in existing building enclosures.
- Document existing building enclosure conditions including photographing and hand-sketching.
- Perform field testing utilizing a variety of testing equipment and instrumentation.
- Organize field data to facilitate analysis and problem solving.
- Research and identify technical and code related issues.
- Prepares construction documents including plans, elevations, sections, details, and general notes under the supervision of a Senior Associate or Principal.
- Prepare technical specifications.
- Perform construction phase services including RFI response, submittal and shop drawing review, and periodic field observation.
- Coordinate with contractors and interface with clients.
- Serve as a technical advisor to entry-level team members.
- Assist with the generation of Proposals for new projects.
- Attend industry events and assist with business development and marketing to existing and new clients
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering (Structural Emphasis) or related field
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Licensed Engineer preferred, or licensed Architect with relative experience considered
- 4– 10 years plus years of practical experience with building enclosure assessment, design, and repair
- Strong computer skills including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
- An interest in building enclosure, field testing, and building restoration
- Working knowledge of any/all of the building systems including masonry facades, curtainwall and thin stone cladding, windows and storefronts, stucco and EIFS, roofing, and waterproofing
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a project team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instruments
- Able to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle
- Able to safely use and/or work on scaffolding equipment
- Able to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
