Job Title: Restaurant Hostess

FLSA Classification: Non- Exempt (Hourly)

Salary Range: $16.35- $18.00, per hour

Reports to: Restaurant Manager

 

Summary/objective: Welcome and warmly greets guests on arrival. Answer telephone within 3 rings, take reservations and manage the efficient and timely seating of our guests to a table that best serves their wishes.

  • Greet each guest, enthusiastically and with a smile to create a friendly positive experience.
  • Conforms to AAA Four Diamond Standards.
  • Schedules dinging reservations for guests in advance. Often makes a decision about where the group will sit.
  • When immediate seating is limited, records guest names and number of people in party.
  • Provide guests with estimated waiting time, always maintaining a professional, courteous attitude when confronted with hostile, impatient or irate guests.
  • Seats guests based on guest preferences and balancing of customer flow in service stations.
  • Call out name and number of party when tables become available.
  • Directs and instructs the dining room personnel on customer needs to ensure customers receive fast and quality service from the moment they arrive.
  • Should a party have special needs or request accommodations, hostess ensures the groups requirements are met. This may include services needed for small children, as well as for individuals with disabilities or food allergies.
  • Upon seating, offer guests a menu and inform them of their servers name. Inspect table for proper presentation and completeness.
  • Thanks guests as they leave and invite them to return.
  • Relay guest comments or suggestions to the manager.
  • Explain the restaurant concept to guests.
  • Filling in for absent staff as needed.
  • Assisting with special events as needed.
  • Understand and can communicate products and services available at the Inn and Spa.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
  • Fully aware of and comply with Inns policies and procedures as identified in the procedure manual and handbook.
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety policies and procedures

Work environment

  • Working conditions are based in a hospitality setting.
  • May be indoor or outdoor setting depending on outlet.
  • Associates may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
  • Noise level in work environment is usually moderate.

Physical demands

  • To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to stand, move and work throughout the food and beverage area and property, including walking up to 1 ½ mile, climbing stairs and sitting at a desk/workstation for the duration of the shift.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
  • The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Maintains all current licenses and certifications
  • Be familiar with all Hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately.
  • Maintains high standards for work area and appearance and presents self in highly professional manner to staff and guest.
  • Available days, evenings, weekends, holidays and extended hours as business dictates.
