We are currently searching for an International Communications Manager to join our team. 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The International Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing public relations strategies to promote Philadelphia as a global destination for international leisure travel, international conventions, and major events coming to Philadelphia that garner international interest.

 

Assigned specific international markets, this role will directly manage relationships with international media and representation firms contracted by the PHLCVB’s Global Tourism department, contribute to the overall PHLCVB communications plan, coordinate media familiarization (FAM) tours, and craft written materials to support marketing efforts abroad. The International Communications Manager will collaborate with the PHLCVB social media team to support platform strategies for assigned markets and manage influencer engagement within their regions.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

International Public Relations and Media Engagement

  • Serve as the primary media relations lead for assigned international markets, building and maintaining strong relationships with in-market representation firms, media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
  • Develop targeted international press releases, pitches, and storylines to generate positive coverage for Philadelphia.
  • Manage all aspects of international media FAM tours from assigned markets, including itinerary development, budgeting, hosting, and post-visit follow-up.
  • Attend international media marketplaces, sales missions, trade shows, and other events as needed to promote Philadelphia.
  • Support international influencer engagement efforts by developing influencer plans, vetting partnerships, and coordinating activations.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Communications to align international PR strategies with the PHLCVB’s larger marketing and communications plan.

 

Representation Firm Management

  • Serve as the primary liaison to public relations leads at assigned international representation firms.
  • Guide in-market PR firms to ensure alignment with PHLCVB messaging, goals, and media targets.
  • Review, coordinate, and distribute all international press releases, media advisories, and content produced for assigned markets.
  • Monitor, measure, and report earned media results from assigned international markets; contribute insights to monthly internal and external reporting.

 

Planning and Reporting

  • Contribute to the development of the PHLCVB’s annual international communications strategy.
  • Maintain an international PR calendar aligned with overall organizational campaigns, key travel periods, and international events.
  • Track international press coverage, provide reporting and analysis to internal teams, and support budget tracking for FAMs and media initiatives.
     

Content Development

  • Draft compelling press materials, itineraries, briefing sheets, and destination content to support international marketing and media needs.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to align international messaging across all channels, including providing localized content for campaigns where needed.

 

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Global Tourism team to craft and support the implementation of international communications strategies, including messaging, FAM tour coordination, budget tracking, and related initiatives.
  • Work with the social media team to contribute to market-specific content plans for assigned international markets.
  • Lead the planning and coordination of influencer engagement activities tied to international tourism objectives.
  • Support broader organizational initiatives that strengthen Philadelphia’s global brand and the PHLCVB’s international presence.
  • Participate in cross-departmental Marcom initiatives and meetings.
     

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, International Relations, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in public relations, communications, or media relations; tourism, travel, or international experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language is a plus.

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong understanding of Philadelphia’s history, culture, and tourism offerings.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with international media and influencers.
  • Experience coordinating international media trips or FAM tours.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 programs; familiarity with media tracking platforms a plus.
  • Ability to travel internationally and domestically as required (passport required).
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends for media hosting and international communications needs.
