We are currently searching for a Director of Digital Content to join our team. 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Digital Content is a newly created role at the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB), focused on leading the organization’s social media presence, digital storytelling, and audience growth efforts. Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer and partnering closely with the Sr. Director of Marketing and Sr. Director of Communications, this role will serve as the organization's senior lead for social media platforms and digital content direction.

 

This position oversees the social media team while collaborating with internal departments, creative partners, freelancers, and agencies to develop and execute platform-specific content that supports PHLCVB’s business objectives across meetings, conventions, events, international tourism and global brand visibility. The Director will also contribute to the ongoing evolution of PHLCVB’s digital platforms and website as part of a collaborative cross-departmental team.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Social Media & Platform Leadership

  • Serve as PHLCVB’s lead strategist for social media and digital platform engagement, shaping voice, content direction, and campaign opportunities across all owned platforms.
  • Direct platform-specific content plans that support PHLCVB’s business goals across meetings, conventions, events, international tourism, and partner promotion.
  • Collaborate with external agency partners and consultants to refine voice, strategy, and audience targeting.
  • Analyze platform data, audience insights, and content performance metrics to inform ongoing social and digital strategy adjustments.
  • Oversee development of platform-native content, ensuring PHLCVB remains current on trends, creative formats, and audience preferences across channels.
     

Team Leadership & Internal Collaboration

  • Manage the Social Media & Content Manager and Social Media Specialist, providing leadership, coaching, mentoring, and professional development across different levels of experience.
  • Foster a high-performance, creative, and collaborative team culture.
  • Serve as a cross-functional partner to Marketing, Communications, Partnerships, Sales, Global Tourism, and other internal teams to ensure alignment of digital messaging with organizational goals.
     

Content Development & Creative Campaigns

  • Work with the Chief Marketing Officer, agency partners, and Marcom leadership to develop creative digital campaigns that elevate Philadelphia’s visibility and amplify partner organizations.
  • Leverage design, video, and creative resources to produce dynamic, platform-optimized visual and video content.
  • Bring creative energy, cultural awareness, and trend instincts to identify opportunities for timely, engaging, and viral digital content moments.
  • Provide creative direction and support to help the team develop platform-native content, short-form video, and timely digital storytelling aligned with PHLCVB’s brand and business priorities.
     

Website & Digital Platform Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the website manager and Marketing team to ensure alignment between digital content and web platform messaging; this role does not oversee website operations or technical administration.
  • Contribute as a key partner in shaping the future evolution of PHLCVB’s website and digital platforms as part of a cross-departmental team focused on advancing audience engagement and business priorities.
     

Operational Oversight

  • Utilize digital platforms and project management systems to organize workflow, scheduling, and campaign execution.
  • Ensure efficient use of tools such as Monday.com, Sprout Social, Adobe Creative Suite, and Simpleview CRM.
  • Stay current on emerging trends, platform innovations, and tools that support digital growth and audience development.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Digital Media, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in digital marketing, social media leadership, or digital content development.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing staff, freelancers, and agency partners.
  • Experience developing and executing social media and digital content strategies for a brand, organization, or destination.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple internal departments and external stakeholders.

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong creative instincts with a business-driven mindset; able to guide tone, voice, messaging, and creative direction across digital platforms.
  • Ability to identify trends, shape timely content, guide short-form video and platform-native storytelling, and develop digital moments that resonate with both core audiences and broader markets.
  • Outstanding writing and messaging skills, with the ability to adapt content across multiple digital channels.
  • Strong understanding of digital analytics, platform performance data, and content optimization.
  • Familiarity with social media management and listening platforms (e.g., Sprout Social), project management tools (e.g., Monday.com), CRM (e.g., Simpleview), and AI-powered marketing tools.
  • Experience with influencer collaborations, paid social campaigns, and cross-platform digital promotions.
  • Sales mindset with an understanding of how digital engagement supports business growth.
  • Professional presence with excellent collaboration, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of Philadelphia, tourism, meetings, events, and the hospitality industry strongly preferred.
