Description

The Consumer Lending Manager oversees all aspects of the consumer lending function, including underwriting, loan support, and loan processing. This role is critical to ensuring sound credit decisions, maintaining portfolio quality, and supporting the credit union’s strategic lending initiatives. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader who understands credit risk, lending technology, and how to motivate teams to achieve excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to loan support, processing, and underwriting teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and service.
  • Oversee daily lending operations to ensure timely and accurate loan decisions and fulfillment.
  • Manage the consumer loan portfolio to maintain quality, compliance, and profitability.
  • Partner with the VP of Lending to set and execute strategic goals for the lending department.
  • Develop and launch new loan products and programs that meet member needs and market demand.
  • Collaborate with various departments to create and implement loan promotions that drive portfolio growth.
  • Implement and refine instant loan decisioning processes to improve member experience and operational efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce turnaround times, and enhance lending system capabilities.
  • Monitor performance metrics and prepare regular reports on loan volume, portfolio health, and department efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with credit union policies, lending regulations, and audit requirements.
  • Support additional projects and initiatives as assigned, collaborating with various departments to achieve common goals.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in consumer lending, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting guidelines, credit analysis, and indirect lending practices.
  • Proven experience with managing loan operations.   
  • Ability to lead, train, and develop a high-performing team.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
