The Branch Environmental, Safety and Health (EHS) Manager reports to the General Manager of the Branch with indirect reporting to the Regional Director of Environmental, Safety and Health and works with the EHS Department to plan, direct, and implement Valcourt’s health and safety and environmental programs to ensure a positive, safe, healthy, and incident-free work environment at the Branch level. This position is responsible for the compliance by Branch with all safety and environmental regulatory agencies. Areas of specialty for this position will focus on safety and environmental compliance monitoring and reporting in all areas of the Branch. This position would also respond to emergency situations at the Branch level when they arise. Act as the primary EHS contact and subject matter expert (SME) for Valcourt Operations at the Branch level related to compliance with the company’s EHS Programs and Policies as well as the regulations and permits which govern our business. The role is pivotal to mitigating the Branch’s exposure to risk by leading, planning, coordinating, and implementing the Valcourt’s EHS management systems in their respective Branches. This requires the application of EHS management principles, such as job safety analyses, task-based evaluations, EHS related systems technology and root cause analysis to prevent or correct unsafe working conditions and regulatory compliance issues. The overarching goal is for EHS professionals to strategically prevent and correct unsafe working conditions and behaviors as well as those that may impact our regulatory compliance.Â
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Plans, develops, implements, and oversees Valcourt’s EHS programs at the Branch level; coordinates and assists with the Branch level safety committees.
- Assists with the record keeping, and manuals for these programs (including but not limited to): OSHA, and state regulatory agencies, Local Emergency Planning Coordinators, and other agencies as required.
- Works with Branch Management, Branch Safety Representatives, and Corporate EHS Department to promote Valcourt’s safety culture.
- Participates and assists with annual company goal setting process for EHS key metrics that are measured for the organization.
- Communicates closely with Operations and Valcourt EHS team members and can independently manage day to day safety compliance so Valcourt’s EHS goals are reached at the Branch level.
- Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and managing EHS policies, programs, and practices to Branch management and employees.Â
- Plans and implements programs to train Branch managers, supervisors, and employees to meet standards and to enhance Valcourt’s safety culture.
- Develops and maintains EHS documentation for various Valcourt programs and regulatory requirements.
- Assists with new employee safety orientation program and employee safety training.
- Attends and successfully completes specific Train-the-Trainer courses to subsequently conduct periodic training including training related with fall protection such as rope descent, Mobile Aerial Work Platforms, utilization of access equipment, building maintenance units, etc.Â
- Assists with employee safety, special projects, and worker's compensation program.
- Assists with the company’s contractor safety program.
- Assists with Valcourt’s emergency response to safety, health, and environmental incidents and injuries at the Branch level.
- Leads and assists with the investigation of incidents and injuries from initial report to closure for the Branch.
- Leads and oversees the implementation of corrective actions arising from EHS audits, incidents, site improvements, safety programs, and other safety related initiative for the Branch.
- Leads and assists with management of change process as it relates to safety, health, and environmental issues for the Branch.
- Proactively identifies safety, health, and environmental related matters and recommends, develops, and implements solutions for the Branch.
- Engages and assists Valcourt’s Safety Team with safety initiatives, programs, audits, and overall EHS program management for continuous improvements.
