The Director of Laboratory Services works with internal and external clients/stakeholders in the development and facilitation of efficient and safe laboratory operations to achieve sustainable change, continuous improvement and meeting key strategic initiatives.Â
- Responsible for managing the operational functions of the Women’s Care Laboratory.
- Responsible for the daily organization, planning, weekly staffing arrangements and supervision of laboratory for specimen collection, specimen management, clinic, technical and clerical areas.
- Provides direction to department personnel to achieve operational and technical objectives including workflow design, service quality, financials, personnel management and integration of departmental activities.

- Maintains medical laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards; developing operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance; arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair.
- Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies and approval of corresponding invoices.
- Maintains laboratory productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas; identifying peak and slack periods; making operational or staffing adjustments when necessary.
- Maintains quality results by promoting the quality management program; consulting with pathologists; performing proficiency surveys; reviewing quality control and quality assurance programs; making adjustments in policy and procedures; generating reports; and maintaining records.
- Maintains laboratory information system (LIS) by identifying information needs and problems; recommending improvements; establishing priorities; testing; writing user manuals; training employees; maintaining security and confidentiality.
- Manages laboratory staff and participates in recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees. Â
- Maintains laboratory staff results by counseling and disciplining employees when necessary; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
- Accountable for financial performance of lab including vendor relationships.
- Partners with RCM and finance team for accountability of billing and denials to ensure optimal billing and coding practices within the laboratory.Â
- Acts as liaison to LIS vendor to ensure system meets all laboratory needs.
- Oversees implementation, maintenance, and new services for chemistry and genetic laboratory.
- Ensures that all accreditations are maintained; including CLIA, CAPS, and other programs as required.
- Ensures appropriate processes are followed with the implementation, training, and education of all new tests and procedures performed by the laboratory.Â
- Assists new markets with set up of pathology lab services.
- Represents laboratory in a professional manner. Treats all customers, internal and external, in a courteous and cooperative manner. Â Be a positive role model to the staff to ensure patient satisfaction standards are met.Â
