POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Engineering is responsible for the overall maintenance and safety of the Hotel. They ensure that the building complies with all regulations and oversees the day-to-day maintenance as well as the long-term preventative maintenance and capital plans. They are responsible for emergency response and safety plans to ensure that guests and associates are safe at all times.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatments, and electrical systems in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Develop an engineering operating strategy that is aligned with the Company’s business strategy.
  • Coach and support Engineering team to effectively manage preventative maintenance programs, daily room calls, and controllable expenses.
  • Work with the property and corporate leadership team to effectively increase Guest Satisfaction scores and highlight areas of concern.
  • Operate within budgeted operating costs and effectively execute all budgeted capital expenditures.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain property life safety systems.
  • Participate in P&L reviews and the budgeting process for all areas of responsibility.
  • Act as the Hotel liaison regarding fire, life, safety, and all planning/code requirements.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and continually communicate a clear and consistent message regarding the departmental goals to produce the desired results.
  • Ensure all associates have proper supplies, equipment, and uniforms.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train Repairs & Maintenance associates.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and discipline staff when needed.
  • Maintain a professional and personable appearance at all times, according to hotel standards.
  • Successfully achieve the hotel’s core competencies including work product, teamwork and culture, guest and customer service, work ethic, impact-oriented problem solver, and entrepreneurship.
  • Successfully achieve the hotel’s core values of ownership, innovation, craft, respect, and community.
  • Primary duty will be managing the business and their department. They will regularly direct the work of two or more associates and have the authority to hire and terminate.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in a similar role in a full-service hospitality operation.
  • Specialized knowledge and skills or certification within a field or discipline such as plumbing, electrician, carpentry, equipment mechanics, HVAC, refrigeration, or similar.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, life safety systems, preventative maintenance plans, and daily hotel operations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to colleagues.
  • Good reading, writing, and oral proficiency in the English language.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, which may include weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds on own and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to stand and walk for entire shift.
  • Requires writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity.
