PROGRAM PURPOSE

The Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake (UICSL) is dedicated to our Mission of SERVING THE PEOPLE BY HONORING NATIVE CULTURES, STRENGTHENING HEALTH & WELLNESS PROGRAMS, & CULTIVATING COMMUNITY.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Outreach Manager serves as a community liaison and is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing strategies to build relationships with tribal members, immediate community and partner organizations. They will increase the organization's presence across multiple platforms through social media, community engagement, and overall outreach. This role requires excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to work collaboratively across multi-functional departments to achieve outreach goals.

This role supervises the Outreach Department and helps build relationships with community partners by ensuring programs are culturally sensitive, data-driven, and aligned with UICSL’s goals.  Under the direct supervision of the Director of Finance the incumbent will demonstrate specific and cultural sensitivity toward UICSL clients. This role is crucial to advancing our mission of “Serving the People”. The incumbent will have a flexible schedule as there will be a commitment of after-hours and weekends. All duties will be done in accordance with federal and state regulations that may apply.

The right candidate has exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, strong organizational and project management skills. Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Is proficient with CRM tools, email marketing platforms, and social media management tools and have a passion for the organization’s mission and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES                                         

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the outreach team by providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and adherence to organizational standards
  • Ensure outreach programs reflect indigenous values by integrating native cultural perspectives, traditional knowledge, and spiritual values into outreach programming and community engagement efforts
  • Develop and execute outreach strategies to engage targeted and appropriate communities and stakeholders through organizational programs, initiatives, and events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with tribal partners, community organizations, media contacts, and key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate events (e.g., workshops, seminars, open houses) to promote the organization’s mission and increase community engagement
  • Manage and oversee outreach campaigns, including email marketing, social media engagement, and public relations efforts.
  • Set long-term and short-term outreach goals through budgeting, communication, donor relationships, education of junior staff and volunteers, marketing, and event/project coordination.
  • Track outreach activities and evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives; prepare regular reports on metrics and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (marketing, development, departments/programs) to align outreach strategies with overall organizational goals.
  • Represent the organization at public events, community meetings, and conferences if the Executive Director is unable or in tandem with.
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships and community collaborations that advance the organization’s mission.
  • Oversee and collaborate with marketing on an integrated social media strategy across different platforms, participates/oversees outreach material creation, and overall website/media design
  • Promote intergenerational engagement by working with UICSL staff to develop programming that brings together elders, youth, and community to strengthen cultural identity and values.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Associate’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or a related field

Relevant professional experience can be a valid substitute

Experience:

3–5 years of proven experience in outreach, community engagement, public relations, or a related field.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment at UICSL involves normal office conditions and noise levels that can vary from low to moderate. Limited overnight travel may be required from time to time. This position may be exposed to certain health risks that are inherent when working within a health center facility.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, an employee may frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk and hear. There may be prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. An employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with patients, vendors, and staff.

MENTAL DEMANDS

Workloads in this position are dynamic and range from an awareness of technical details, to engaging broad strategic ideas and discussions. The incumbent in this position will often work alone but must also be prepared to handle employee issues as required. This position will require the ability to multi-task and handle stressful situations that impact the UICSL on an organizational level, so the incumbent needs to demonstrate a high level of emotional balance. Group presentation and education tasks are common, and there are numerous applicable standards and deadlines associated with this position.
