Job Summary:
The Senior Contract Instructional Designer leads the creation and enhancement of impactful learning content for both internal and external RailPros audiences. This role collaborates with SMEs and clients to assess needs, design effective training solutions, and deliver high-quality eLearning and instructor-led courses—primarily focused on safety and technical skills. The position also oversees the development and integration of multimedia assets and ensures training is engaging, performance-driven, and aligned with adult learning principles.
This is not a remote position—the candidate must be based in the Seattle area, willing to work in the office as needed, and conduct on-site field visits and client meetings as part of project development.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Participate in on-site client meetings and provide support at client locations as required to ensure alignment with project goals
- Perform field-based needs assessments, including observations and structured interviews, within industrial or operational settings
- Partner with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather content, validate accuracy, and inform the design and development of effective training solutions
- Apply adult learning principles and instructional design best practices to create engaging learning activities and compelling course content material/media (audio, video, simulations, games etc.)
- Own the end to the end-to-end design and development of learning content, including modes of assessment to measure the effectiveness and application of training
- Design learning that reflects an understanding of the diversity of learning styles to ensure that learning solutions resonate with increasingly diverse audience
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify training needs/ knowledge gaps
- Suggest curriculum-based recommendations based on requirements analysis
- State instructional end goals and create content to match
- Help write project proposals, to include project scope, design plan, timelines, and budgets
- Develop training deliverables/ collateral in part or in full for multiple projects, including training design documents, ILT instructor guides, student workbooks, exams, presentations, eLearning storyboards, eLearning modules/ programs, and surveys
- Work with a team to create supporting material/media, including (audio, video, animations, simulations, role plays, games, etc.)
- Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process
- Decide on the criteria used to judge learner’s performance and develop assessment instruments
- Maintain project documentation and course folders
- Conduct follow-up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results
- Modify/ revise programs as needed
- Other duties as assigned or required to meet the business needs
