About the Job:

CDS Logistics is seeking a dynamic professional to support the management of inbound and outbound operations of a logistics facility for our leading final mile logistics company. The Assistant Operations Manager will be responsible for supporting the Senior Operations Manager in overseeing all aspects of warehousing, logistics operations, and personnel/contractor management for their respective operations location. This position will report directly to the Senior Operations Manager. The primary goal for this position is to ensure excellent operational standards are met while maintaining high customer satisfaction for business executed through the respective facility.

 

Assistant Operations Manager:

This role will focus on driving operational performance in the assigned facility to meet and exceed customer expectations through hands-on support and strong communication strategies.

Essential Job Functions and Duties:

  • Lead, mentor, and support your team to execute inbound and outbound demands for the facility, ensuring that all scheduled inbound and outbound products are executed daily in alignment with our customers’ expectations.  
  • Manage and foster relationships with independent contract drivers and/or 3rd party service providers of independent contract drivers to support the outbound schedules daily. This includes, but is not limited to ensure proper auditing activity, executing dock master tasks, issue resolution for driver team throughout daily operations, creative problem solving when faced with a service failure to still meet customer expectations, etc.
  • Create an environment where operational activities: drive operational performance improvements, meet customer expectations, meet compliance requirements, develop personnel, including suggesting and executing career development plans for all direct reports, and create a culture where operational excellence and safety are top priorities. 
  • Work closely with the Senior Operations Manager and the Human Resources Department to execute against talent attraction, acquisition, development, and management goals.
  • Execute timely data collection to maintain operational metrics, set and achieve performance targets, reduce operational costs, and eliminate operational errors.
  • Support the Senior Operations Manager with the partnership of building positive relationships with key customer points of contact to facilitate a strong relationship and to provide optimal support levels around customer needs and expectations.
  • Support the Senior Operations Manager with the onboarding of new customer accounts and implementation of account management with the inbound, outbound, and customer service teams.
  • Promote a company culture that encourages top performance and high morale in alignment with our company values.
  • Support the Senior Operations Manager with managing and leading safety, compliance, and lean management initiatives.
  • Provide inspired leadership for the organization through a lead-by-example approach where you work closely with the Senior Operations Manager to develop strategies that you execute on to develop and train staff across your organization.
  • Ability to interpret inbound, outbound, and customer service metrics and data into a reporting structure to drive operational efficiencies and lower damages.
  • Support the Senior Operations manager with ensuring all legal and regulatory documents are maintained for compliance.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Possession of key competencies, including strong communication, organization, prioritization, conflict management, creative problem-solving, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience managing and scheduling workforce to support operational needs.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in the logistics industry.
  • Minimum of 1 year’s supervisory experience in the logistics industry, or 3 years of experience in a high-impact customer/employee-facing role providing support and guidance on logistics SOPs and lean initiatives.
  • Certification to operate warehouse power industrial equipment or the ability to operate equipment and become certified as an operator and trainer.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in the logistics industry; preferably, experience includes 3PL or last-mile logistics.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of supervisory experience in the logistics industry; preferably, experience includes operations supervisor, warehouse supervisor, or driver supervisor/DOT manager in the logistics industry.
  • Lean Management Certification of Yellow Belt or Higher.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification.
  • Past personnel planning and management responsibilities.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Responsible for managing warehouse and office personnel and the business relationship with our 1099 contract drivers.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk for 8+ hours per day, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Travel:

Little to no travel is expected for this position but may present opportunities for travel within Florida and across other states for training and development or stretch assignments.

 

 

Work Environment:

This job operates on-site in a warehouse and office environment. This role occasionally uses power industrial equipment such as forklifts, double electric pallet jacks, clamp trucks, and double reach trucks. This role routinely uses office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and telephones.
