The Radiation Therapist plays a crucial role in delivering radiation therapy treatments to patients as prescribed by radiation oncologists. This position involves performing a wide range of technical duties related to radiation therapy, including simulation, treatment delivery, patient education, and record-keeping. The Radiation Therapist also provides guidance and supervision to other Radiation Therapists and Radiation Medicine staff, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy treatments.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide technical guidance and consultation to Radiation Therapists and other Radiation Medicine staff.
- Recommend improvements to departmental operations to enhance efficiency and patient care.
- Perform all required duties of a Radiation Therapist, including simulation and localization of treatment areas.
- Monitor and perform patient treatments, ensuring accuracy and adherence to treatment plans.
- Maintain and document treatment records and summaries, creating treatment charts as prescribed by radiation oncologists.
- Educate and counsel patients on treatment procedures, providing emotional support during and after treatment.
- Produce x-ray films for verification of treatment areas and critical structures.
- Assist in specialized procedures and treatments as prescribed.
- Maintain and manage Radiation Medicine personal film and lifetime records.
- Perform equipment safety checks and inspections, including primary and secondary equipment safety checks.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of Radiation Therapy technology students.
- Maintain equipment inventory and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Enhance professional growth and development by participating in educational programs and in-service meetings.
- Prepare written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
- Attend meetings as required and perform other related duties as assigned.
