Description

Georgia Military College is now accepting applications for the full-time Reference and Instruction Librarian. The Reference and Instruction Librarian is the liaison between the library, faculty, and students; instructor of information literacy; promoter of library resources and services; and contributor to the acquisitions team.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach library orientation and information literacy classes. Whole class instruction either in the classroom or in the library involves PowerPoint presentations and demonstration of library databases. Establish goals, objectives, and priorities for the library reference and instructional programs and monitor progress toward reaching those goals. Prepare reports concerning library reference and instructional services and programs. Work with Learning Support Faculty to develop literacy and library instruction tailored to the unique needs of students in Learning Support classes.
  • Individual reference assistance is provided daily to students and faculty in person, by email, and by phone; this includes time scheduled at the reference/circulation desk and outside of work hours.
  • Contribute in the establishment of goals, objectives, and priorities for the future of the GMC library. Serve as SACS reviewer. Offer guidance to other campus library associates for instruction and research needs.
  • Evaluate and recommend acquisition of appropriate materials including fiction, non-fiction, biography, reference, and graphic novels. Consult on database, eBook, and periodical acquisitions. Annually weed the collection as needed to meet curriculum needs.
  • Library marketing. Compose emails; create book displays in the library; design posters and other signage in and outside the library; design handouts and brochures to promote the library and library services to students, faculty, and staff.

Qualifications

Requirements:  

  • MLIS or MLS from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • 2 years of experience working in a library
  • Communication, customer service oriented, familiarity with word processing, online tools including Web 2.0, compiling reports, research.
