Taylor Engineering, Inc. seeks to hire an entry level and/or mid-level Geospatial Scientist/Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst to join our growing team in Jacksonville, Florida or Tampa, Florida.  This is an on-site position where you’ll be surrounded by smart, mission-focused professionals doing impactful work every day.
As a part of our team, you’ll support FEMA’s nationwide Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) program, helping communities understand and reduce their flood risk. You’ll build your skills while working on projects that involve spatial data development, map production, watershed management, and quality control – all critical components of national resilience and disaster preparedness.
In this role, you’ll support and help manage floodplain mapping and geospatial analyses – from interpreting hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) data to spotting discrepancies and ensuring FEMA standards are met. You’ll work closely with seasoned engineers and other geospatial analysts who will help you grow your technical skills and build your confidence as a geospatial professional.
Requirements
A qualified candidate will possess the following.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geospatial Information Sciences, Geography, Geomatics or related field.
- Entry Level: 0-3Â years of experience in the GIS field.
- Mid-Level: 3-6 years of experience in the GIS field.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen (required for federal contracting work).
- Familiarity with ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro.
- Solid understanding of spatial analysis, relational databases, map design, and topographic data.
- A positive, solutions-oriented mindset and eagerness to learn.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel or support fieldwork when needed.
- Confidence in reviewing technical information, maps, and diagrams.
Preferred Experience In:
- FEMA’s Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) program or related FEMA mapping work.
- FEMA Flood Insurance Studies (FIS), DFIRM production, or compliance reviews.
- Floodplain mapping and risk analysis projects.
- Projects related to coastal or riverine resilience, sea level rise, or vulnerability assessments.
Physical Job Requirements:
- Lifting up to (25) pounds unassisted.
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Possess acceptable vision (with or without corrective lenses) to be able to see and navigate a computer screen.
- Â Ability to occasionally go out into the field and construction sites.
