Description

Taylor Engineering is currently seeking a mid-level Water Resources Engineer to work in any of our Florida locations (Jacksonville, Tampa, or Destin). The Water Resources Engineer will work independently or under direct supervision, the specific responsibilities will include the following tasks:

  • Hydrologic & Hydraulic Modeling – Develop, calibrate, and apply MIKE SHE and MIKE HYDRO models for integrated surface water and groundwater assessments.
  • H&H Analysis – Evaluate water movement through watersheds, aquifers, and river systems to support flooding and environmental studies.
  • Data Collection & Processing – Gather, analyze, and manage hydraulic, hydrologic, hydrogeologic, and meteorological data.
  • GIS Analysis – Utilize GIS tools to process spatial data, support model development, analyze model results, and present findings.
  • Model Calibration & Validation – Perform sensitivity analyses, calibrate models using observed data, and validate model performance.
  • Scenario Development & Impact Assessment – Simulate various hydrologic conditions, land-use changes, and climate scenarios to support water resource planning and decision-making.
  • Technical Report Writing & Documentation – Prepare detailed technical reports, memos, and presentations summarizing modeling approaches, findings, and recommendations.
  • Collaboration & Communication – Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including engineers, scientists, and stakeholders, to develop innovative water management solutions.

Requirements

A qualified candidate will possess the following:

  • M.S. (preferred) or B.S. Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering (or related engineering field), with emphasis on water resources and H&H modeling.
  • Experience: 5 - 10 years of experience in water resources, particularly in flood modeling.
  • Experience: Previous experience with 1D and 2D distributed models is preferred.
  • Registration: EIT registration preferred and ability and desire to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Candidate Characteristics  

  • Demonstrated excellent collaboration and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic concepts, including open-channel hydraulics and overland and groundwater processes. 
  • Proficiency with ESRI Arc GIS, as well as HEC-RAS (2D), FLO 2D, SWMM, or ICPR. Experience with MIKE SHE and MIKE11 (HYDRO) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Python for data analysis and automation is a plus.
  • Experience in permitting and/or LOMR preparation and/or review of engineering models is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Energetic, detail-oriented team player.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with remote employees and other offices.
