Description

Taylor Engineering, Inc. seeks a part-time Senior Advisor with a primary focus on Navigation Dredging and Dredged Material Management. This position will serve as the District Engineer, or the District Engineer’s Representative, for the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND), providing oversight for all efforts by Taylor Engineering performed on behalf of FIND. Also performs other duties as assigned which may include technical reviews of navigation related reports or assistance with issues associated with Ports and Harbors. This position will be 10-20 hours per week.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Main point of contact for Taylor Engineering with FIND.  Maintain close contact with the FIND Executive Director and staff, including responding to FIND’s requests, as appropriate.
  • Keep FIND informed on project status.
  • Attend all FIND Board Meetings. Sits at the table as the District Engineer or the Taylor Engineering representative and responsible for answering any questions on FIND projects performed by Taylor.
  • Brief and advise the President of Taylor, as needed, prior to the Board Meetings.
  • Maintain contact with the USACE Project Manager for the Intracoastal waterway and the Okeechobee waterway.
  • This role is the decision maker on FIND issues, delegating to appropriate staff as needed. (First in line to receive FIND questions).
  • Review and sign all non-financial related correspondence with FIND (i.e. proposals, letters, etc.) from Taylor.
  • Act as Taylor’s representative for FIND 5-year planning.
  • Prepare a report following each Board meeting. Coordinate with staff after Board Meeting to verify schedules, assignments, and resolve any issues arising at Board Meetings.
  • Attend monthly FIND Status Update meetings before FIND Board Meetings.
  • Assist Project Managers and Directors as needed with project issues.
  • Involved in all controversial or potentially controversial issues regarding FIND projects.
  • Review proposals before they are sent to FIND and sign Letter of Transmission.
  • Knowledgeable of project(s) schedules and status.
  • Review draft and final products.
  • Assist Project Managers and Taylor’s Service Group Leaders with FIND project priorities and scheduling.
  • Perform project manager duties for assigned projects, especially FIND General Services account.

Preferred Requirements

  • Registration: Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to attain licensure within 12 months

Candidate Characteristics

  • General knowledge of dredging, as it relates to Federally authorized navigation channels.
  • General knowledge of dredged material management including upland dredged material management areas, beach placement, and offshore disposal.
  • Understanding of federal policies regarding navigation including beneficial use of dredged material.
  • Understanding of basic environmental requirements regarding navigation projects including general federal and state permitting requirements.
  • Understanding of Project Management philosophies and able to coordinate basic project requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills and able to relate at the highest level to the lowest interns.
  • Ability to assist in making decisions on controversial issues and knowing when to delegate to others. 

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting up to (35) pounds unassisted
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Possesses acceptable vision (with or without corrective lenses) to be able to see and navigate a computer screen
  • Ability to conduct work in field and on construction sites
