Job Summary

The Education Specialist is responsible for working with the Center Director, with support from the Education and Program Development department, to ensure quality PAL Smarts and PAL Arts activities are being implemented during after school and summer day camp. Quality programming is achieved by observing and coaching staff, recommending and setting up trainings, and modifying activity plans supplied by Education Department to meet the needs and abilities of participants. In this position, Education Specialist will split time working with elementary and middle school programs, located in the same building.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Model and uphold all Agency rules.

2. Work with the Center Director to oversee the implementation of program activities. Assist center staff with effective delivery of lessons.

3. Modify or expand Education Department’s after school and summer program curricula to fit individual center needs. Curricula should be thematic and provide youth with hands-on, sequential, standards aligned learning experiences.

4. Using data collected by PAL’s Evaluator, funder reports staff reports, and partner schools’ input, foster continuous quality improvement of curricula and activities.

5. Develop and maintain a relationship with the partner principal(s) and designated school staff. Ensure PAL and partner school goals and needs are reflected in PAL programming

6. Provide coaching and training to Group Leaders, Activity Specialists and Teachers.

7. Assist in planning and facilitating center Parent Workshops.

8. Present ideas and suggestions for improving programs as often as possible. When presenting a problem or offering constructive criticism, also offer an alternative solution.

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Submit weekly, monthly, written, and verbal reports, as requested.

2. Attend regular meetings and trainings with center staff, Education Department, and center stakeholders to assist in program delivery and promotion of programs.

3. Assist in the planning, set up, and cleanup for PAL special events.

Qualifications

Skills/Knowledge Required:

· A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field. NYS Teaching Certification preferred. Master’s Degree in Education or related field strongly preferred.

· At least 2 years’ experience in curriculum development and lesson planning.

· Familiarity with integrating New York Common Core Language Standards into project based learning activities.

· Experience in implementing structured programming for elementary and middle school students. Classroom teaching experience a plus.

· Must be responsible and organized with strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and email systems.

· Must be a team player.

Compensation:  $42.50 Per Hour 

Hours & Days: Tuesday-Thursday 3:00pm-6:00pm

Location: Wynn Center - Police Athletic League, Inc.
