Job Summary:

  • The off-duty officer is under the direct supervision of the director of security and facilities.  This position is responsible for providing protection, safeguarding, safety, and security of assets, property, personnel, patients, and visitors on the Crossing Healthcare Campus. This is a per diem position.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responds to unusual or emergency situations on the Crossing Healthcare Campus using the appropriate escalation of force level.
  • Observes and reports activities and incidents, providing for the security and safety of Crossing Healthcare property, staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Makes periodic tours to check for irregularities and inspects security devices.
  • Preserves order and acts to enforce laws, regulations, and directives pertaining to staff, patients, visitors, and premises.
  • Patrols assigned site on foot, checks for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations.
  • Observes and reports incidents or suspicious activity to Director of Security and Facilities as appropriate.
  • Performs other related work as required or requested.

Education and Experience:

  • Must have successfully completed a certified police academy, 400 plus hour, law enforcement academy.
  • Must be a current employee in good standing with the Decatur Police Department or Macon County Sheriff’s Office and approved for off-duty work utilizing police department equipment (i.e. uniforms, weapon, vehicle (if issued), etc.) Proof of approved off-duty work required before hire.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in conditions that include exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissues, contagious diseases and/or other potentially hazardous materials
  • Moderate physical exertion including frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, carrying moderately heavy loads (up to 25 lbs.) and climbing stairs
