Description

Principal Function: The Tram Driver is responsible for providing guests with safe transportation from one historic area to another while enhancing the museum experience by providing necessary and helpful information about Conner Prairie.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Performs daily maintenance and safety checks on Conner Prairie trams.
  2. Cleans tram seats, floors, and driver area on a daily basis.
  3. Drives tram continuously to designated tram stops per schedule.
  4. Performs host/hostess duties at Tram stops by greeting all guests as they board and answering questions. Assists guests boarding and exiting tram as needed.
  5. Provides information to guests regarding special events, daily activities, upcoming events, education programs and Conner Prairie history.
  6. Directs additional visitor questions to Guest Services for detailed information. Provides guests with Comment Cards as needed.
  7. Directs unresolved questions and/or concerns to the appropriate supervisor for follow-up. Keeps the tram supervisor informed of all issues involving tram and visitors.
  8. Operates tram following all outlined and necessary safety regulations and procedures.
  9. Safely operates tram with a manual stick shift—4 speed. Tram driver operates from a compact cab.
  10. Must be available to drive for special events in the evenings and on holidays.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: Must be a minimum of 17 years of age; high school or college and/or graduated or obtained GED.

Must have previous experience driving a Manual Transmission vehicle (stick-shift.)

Other Skills and Abilities: The following skills and abilities are either required or desired.

  • The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. Spanish is desired.
  • Driving record acceptable for position.
  • Valid state Driver’s License

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and the ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to working in outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

While the offices of Conner Prairie are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, this position is predominantly weekend work to include Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
