Job Summary

The Non-Emergency Transportation Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and compassionate transportation of patients to and from medical appointments, therapies, and other designated locations. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent driving skills, and the ability to interact positively and professionally with children and their guardians, ensuring a comfortable and secure transport experience.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a non-CDL vehicle to transport pediatric patients according to scheduled routes and appointments.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and proper working condition.
  • Assist patients, as needed, with entering and exiting the vehicle, including securing car seats or booster seats for appropriate age/size.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with patients, guardians, dispatch, and medical staff regarding schedules, delays, or any issues.
  • Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and patient manifests.
  • Ensure the vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with necessary safety items.
  • Respond to unexpected situations or emergencies calmly and professionally, following established protocols.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.

 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record (no major violations in the past 3-5 years).
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience.
  • Experience working with children and adults in a professional or volunteer capacity is highly preferred.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
  • Excellent knowledge of local traffic laws and routes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a compassionate demeanor.
  • Ability to maintain a strict schedule and manage time effectively.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
  • Ability to safely lift and secure car seats, booster seats, and assist children (up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to safely lift and secure adult patients up to 300 pounds.
  • Ability to assist patients with mobility issues, including entry and exit from the vehicle.
  • Good vision and hearing (with or without corrective lenses) to operate a vehicle safely.
  • Ability to perform routine vehicle checks and light maintenance tasks.
