Description

The Staenberg-Loup Jewish Community Center of Denver (JCC) is seeking an Athletic Coordinator. This is a shared position between the Fitness and Engagement departments. The Athletic Coordinator is responsible planning, developing, and operating adult and youth sport clinics leagues and serving as the Delegation head for the Colorado delegation to the JCC Maccabi Games. This includes developing, marketing, and coordinating all aspects of sports leagues, creating opportunities for community members to engage in organized sports programming,  recruitment and coordination of teen athletes for the JCC Maccabi Games, and managing budgets. An ideal candidate for this position will create sports programming that meets the JCC Denver’s mission to build a community, rooted in Jewish values, where everyone feels like they belong.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and supervise all aspects of K through grade 12 youth athletics programming including, but not limited to: sports leagues, clinics, and JCC Maccabi Games.
  • Design, implement and supervise all aspects of adult athletics consisting of leagues and pick-up sports including pickleball, basketball, volleyball, and additional sports.
  • In conjunction with the JCC Denver Marking department, market and promote JCC youth athletics, adult athletics, and JCC Maccabi Games.
  • Develop and strength relationships with youth, parents, JCC fitness members, and program participants through emails, phone calls, online presence, in-person recruitment, and community outreach.
  • Serve as the Delegation Head for the Colorado Delegation to the JCC Maccabi Games.
  • Recruit, hire, and train coaches for youth athletics, adult athletics, and the Colorado Delegation to the JCC Maccabi Games.
  • Maintain and organize all sports leagues and Maccabi sports equipment.
  • Integrate Jewish culture and the Jewish values of Kehila (community), Haklalla (Inclusion), and Osher (wellbeing) into sports programming.
  • Manage budgets and meet revenue goals for athletics programming and the Colorado Maccabi Delegation.
  • Utilize SmartRec, CampMinder, GoFMX, and software applications as needed to successfully manage registration, billing, and scheduling.
  • Be available and present in person outside of typical business hours to successfully supervise programming including evenings and weekends depending on the needs of programming.
  • Model appropriate safety and wellbeing practices, including wearing proper footwear and clothing as designated by the Director of Engagement and JCC policies.

 

Other Duties/Responsibilities Required

  • Occasionally staff the front desk or fitness desk at the JCC Denver.
  • Be an active contributor to the Fitness and Engagement teams to help grow community involvement in JCC Denver programming.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other Jewish communal professionals in the Denver metro area teen and youth to recruit and share resources .
  • Coordinate with other JCC Denver departments to manage the schedule of the gymnasium space.
  • Uphold and enforce all JCC Denver policies and safety procedures.
  • Attend JCC Denver Staff Meetings, and Fitness and Engagement department team meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Prior experience in managing organized sports and sport leagues for adults and youth.
  • 1-3 years of experience working with school-age children and teens.
  • 1-3 years of customer service experience.
  • Ability to plan, organize and execute long-term and short-term youth-focused programs that integrate Jewish values and skill development.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills as well as verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Sharepoint and Teams.
  • Creative approach to marketing and promotion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
  • First Aid, CPR, and Universal Precautions certifications required – the JCC Denver can provide training.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree in sports management.
  • Knowledge and experience of the Jewish community strongly preferred.
  • 1-3 years as a coach, delegation head, or professional staff in the JCC Maccabi Games or similar program strongly preferred.

 

Physical/Mental Requirements (ADA Compliance)

Must be able to meet the physical demands of coaching sports for youth grades K-12 and adults including standing and walking for 2-3 hours and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Physical Requirements may include extended walking, standing, kneeling, crawling, and running as needed.

The JCC contributes a portion of medical, dental, and vision plan premiums. The JCC proudly pays for 100% of Basic Life Insurance, AD&D, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability coverage for benefits eligible employees. We also provide additional voluntary benefit plans.

The JCC has a 401(K) Plan available for elective deferral contributions for employees over 21 years of age with no waiting period. The JCC matches 50% of employee contributions, up to 3%, on a 5-year vesting schedule.

Paid Time Off is a day-one benefit, accrued based on years of service and in compliance with Colorado Health Families & Workplaces Act. First-year, benefits-eligible employees may accrue up to 120 hours of Paid Time Off in their first year of service. The JCC also provides paid-holidays and benefits-eligible employees are awarded up to 4 additional “Floating Holidays” per year, prorated based on date of hire.
