Description

The Child and Family Specialist is responsible for providing Rehab and Case management services to assigned clients and families and functions as a member of the Child and Family Team (CFT).  A Child and Family Specialist is expected to exercise professional judgment and discretion in providing for the safety, permanency, and well-being of the clients. Child and Family Specialist staff must complete all training requirements per DMH contract within the first year of employment.  The Child and Family Specialist reports directly to the Team or Clinical Supervisor.

 

DUTIES:
1. CASE MANAGEMENT: Provides general case management services (resource
identification & linkage) to clients in accordance with their strengths, needs and desires.
2. SUPPORT SERVICES: Provides support services and skills training to clients and families
as outlined in the Meeting Matrix and Client Treatment Plan.
3. CLIENT INTEREST: Stimulates client’s interests in various clinical offerings. Monitors
progress and maintains close contact with client and family.
4. INTERVENTIONS: Understands and can implement behavioral modification principles
and techniques as a mental health intervention for clients and families when applicable.
5. PRODUCTIVITY: Meets all productivity requirements and completes all necessary
documentation required of the position set forth by the agency Tier System and internal
policies.
6. COLLABORATION: Regularly collaborates with Masada Staff, clients, caregivers and
supports, and other members of the clinical team.
7. SUPERVISION: Meets regularly with supervisor to review cases and communicates
critical issues to supervisor and team in a timely fashion.
8. PROFESSIONALISM: Interfaces professionally and appropriately with other agency staff
and extra-agency resources.
9. MEETINGS: Attends staff meetings, in-service training and conferences as required.
Attends and actively participates in all CFT meetings scheduled for assigned clients.
10. CONFIDENTIALITY: Maintains strict confidentiality over all records and information
relative to clients.
11. BOUNDARIES: Establishes positive, respectful and nurturing relationships with clients
and families within professional boundaries and in accordance with agency policies and
procedures.
12. CRISIS: Participates in the 24-hour/day, 7-day/week on-call crisis response system,
ensuring safety of clients and providing direct crisis intervention and therapeutic
guidance as needed.
13. STRENGTH BASED: Ensures delivery of family-centered practice strategies while
maintaining flexible service delivery to meet the client’s needs and build on the
strengths of the individual client.
14. ACCESSIBILITY: Is available and accessible to contact as needed by the assigned
client/family and all CFT members.

15. OTHER: Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services, Social Work or Psychology plus a minimum of one year of experience working with high-risk youth OR a high school diploma (or General Educational Diploma (GED)) plus a minimum of three years’ experience working with high risk youth.
2. Valid California Driver’s License, good driving record, and must be able to drive to fulfill the duties of the position.
