Position Summary
The Director of Tax and Compliance is a senior leader responsible for overseeing all corporate tax functions, including income, sales, payroll, and property taxes, as well as all state and local registrations and regulatory filings. This role will build and scale tax compliance processes, reduce risk exposure, and serve as a key partner to executive leadership. The ideal candidate brings deep technical tax expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to navigate a dynamic, multi-entity environment.


Primary Objective
The primary objective of the Director of Tax and Compliance is to lead all tax strategies, regulatory compliance, and corporate filings for Parking Management Company, ensuring full legal compliance, minimizing risk, and supporting scalable growth. This role also advises senior leadership, drives process improvements, and safeguards the company’s tax position across all jurisdictions.


Duties and Responsibilities

Tax Compliance and Strategy
The Director of Tax and Compliance leads all federal, state, and local tax filings and develops strategies to ensure tax efficiency and full compliance. The role serves as the primary liaison with tax advisors and regulators, provides expert guidance, and conducts research on complex tax issues to inform internal decision-making and maintain compliance across 40+ states.


Licensing, Filings, and Corporate Compliance
The Director of Tax and Compliance oversees all licensing, filings, and corporate compliance across jurisdictions, ensuring timely and accurate business registrations, license renewals, and permit maintenance while proactively managing compliance deadlines to prevent regulatory issues.


Governance and Controls
The Director of Tax and Compliance strengthens tax governance by developing policies, procedures, and internal controls that ensure sustainable compliance and risk mitigation. The role also manages equity and cap table administration with Finance and Legal and oversees owner distributions in alignment with partnership agreements and tax requirements.
 
Team Leadership and Collaboration
The Director of Tax and Compliance leads a small team in managing daily tax and compliance operations, promoting accuracy, accountability, and ongoing improvement. This role enhances process efficiency, supports audits and business growth initiatives, and ensures tax considerations aligned with company objectives. The director also plays a collaborative role in sales efforts— leading meetings, following up on contracts and proposals, and partnering with internal teams to develop competitive, strategy-aligned programs that drive organizational growth.


Training and Education
Providing training and education to internal stakeholders on tax compliance matters, ensuring that employees understand their responsibilities and the importance of compliance.


Additional Responsibilities
Other tasks may be assigned as needed to support the company’s overall operational and financial objectives, with the expectation that the management remains flexible and responsive to evolving business needs. Attend required staff meetings and complete assigned training modules in a timely manner. Including but not limited to the ability to work flexible hours when needed, particularly during financial close periods and occasional travel for financial reviews, audits, or corporate meetings. May be required.

Competency/Qualifications

Education/Experience
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, with 10+ years of corporate tax experience and at least 5 years in a leadership role. They should have strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, multi-jurisdictional compliance, and regulatory filings, along with proficiency in Excel and ERP/tax software.

Key strengths include team leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to clearly communicate complex tax matters. Preferred qualifications include a CPA, MST or MBA, private equity experience, and familiarity with partnership taxation and equity governance.

Work Environment
The work environment for this role includes both indoor and outdoor settings, requiring collaboration with teams, vendors, and clients on-site and in corporate environments. Associates may frequently use computers, communicate via phone, and perform duties in or around corporate office settings.

Employees may be required to use personal cell phones for work-related communication, including coordination with team members, managers, and clients, as well as accessing work applications. Reimbursement for work-related phone usage will follow company policy.


Physical Demands
Requirements may include extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, and the ability to lift moderate weights when necessary. Specific vision abilities—close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustments—may be required to ensure on-site awareness and safety.

Employee at Will
Employment with PMC is on an at-will basis, meaning either the employee or the employer may end the employment relationship at any time, for any reason, with or without cause or notice, in accordance with applicable laws. A 120-day introductory period applies.


Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), meaning employees in this role are not eligible for overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek at a rate of one and one-half times their regular hourly rate. PMC adheres to all applicable federal, state, and local wage and overtime laws, ensuring that compensation complies with these legal standards.


All hourly rates will meet or exceed the minimum wage requirements for your specific work location.
