Job Summary:

The Jones Library at Lancaster Bible College seeks an innovative and collaborative librarian to manage the library’s print and electronic book collections. A successful candidate will be able to oversee all aspects of collection management. This candidate will also be able to lead the library in coordinating efforts for long- term collection development planning for both print and online sources. In addition, those serving in this position will be part of the reference team and take part in online and in-person reference as well as provide instruction in information literacy and discernment.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college
  • Master of Library Science from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years’ library experience.
  • Second master’s degree preferred
  • Technology and web design experience preferred.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Collection Development

  • Provides leadership for developing balanced library collections that support the curriculum and provide the information needs of students and faculty.
  • Works with the Library Director to determine annual budget allocations for resources and manages annual budget.
  • Plans and executes the annual review of the Collection Development Policy by the library staff and the Associate Provost for Academics.
  • Oversees weeding projects and manages the size of the collection.
  • Manages the creation and revision of collection-development methods.
  • Processes all Gift books and donations from individuals and organizations, including maintaining policies and procedures for donations.
  • Acquisitions of Library materials, books and serials.
  • Prepares the library budget with the electronic resource librarian and library director.
  • Orders materials for the library.
  • Monitors expenditures/encumbrances to ensure that funds are being spent at an appropriate rate.
  • Ensures the processing of library resources from acquisition to shelving.
  • Works cooperatively with the Business office, library staff, and academic departments so that materials are processed in a timely manner.
  • Ensures materials are in good condition and performs repairs as needed.

Reference

  • Provides reference service from ready reference to dissertation assistance through in- person meetings, online, email, and chat.

Library Liaison

  • Works with academic departments on collection development
  • Writes library accreditation reports for the departments as needed.

General Library and College Functions

  • Serves on relevant institutional committees.
  • Attends relevant academic and institutional meetings.
  • Participates in general library functions such as customer service, mail processing, and library loan processing, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
