Job Overview: 

The Kitchen Assistant Manager supports the Kitchen Manager in supervising and coordinating kitchen activities, including food preparation and service. This role may also involve functioning as the Manager on Duty.  

Hours: 40+ hours a week, possibly working nights, weekends, and holidays is a requirement.  Hours may vary.Shape 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist the Kitchen Manager in food preparation, serving, and cooking.    

  • Manage and assist in overseeing incoming and outgoing food.    

  • Log incoming/outgoing food, enter invoices, and conduct weekly or bi-weekly inventory.    

  • Ensure proper storage of food and maintain inventory of food and supplies, reporting shortages to the Kitchen Manager.    

  • Monitor food quality, freshness, and presentation.    

  • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, food preparation areas, and storage areas.    

  • Ensure proper operation and safe use of kitchen equipment.    

  • Lead and support kitchen staff, fostering a positive work environment.    

  • Serve as a role model for staff in conduct, appearance, and communication.    

  • Perform dishwashing and general cleaning duties as needed.    

  • Ensure staff use cut gloves when handling knives.    

  • Maintain open communication with Kitchen Manager, Sterling’s Manager, General Manager, Director of Restaurants, and/or District Manager.    

  • Understand and regulate food costs.    

  • Manage tasks and meet deadlines.    

  • Maintain proper sanitation and food handling guidelines.    

  • Complete other duties as assigned.    

Qualifications

General Qualifications: 

  • Must be at least 21 years old.    

  • ServSafe certification required to meet county regulations.    

  • R-Serving certification required at bar locations for those 21 or older and able to pour basic drinks (or provide a written religious exemption).    

  • Must have a valid driver's license and vehicle insurance for running errands.    

  • Must have availability to open and/or close regularly.    

  • Previous experience in food service or a related field preferred.    

  • Knowledge of food safety practices.    

  • Strong leadership, communication, and written skills.    

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.    

  • Ability to adapt, learn, and grow. 

 

Physical Demands:

  • The ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, handle objects, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch.    

  • The ability to frequently move, stock, and transport boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.    

  • Ability to work in high and low-temperature environments.    

  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment.    

  • Mental stamina to handle stressful and busy periods.
