Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Clinical Informaticist serves as a specialist focused on supporting and optimizing the Epic electronic health record system. This role requires expertise in Epic applications, healthcare workflows, and clinical documentation. Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion in handling sensitive patient data and system information. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to optimize Epic functionality, improve patient care quality, and enhance operational efficiency through effective use of the Epic system.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Analyze clinical workflows within Epic to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization
2. Configure, implement, and maintain Epic applications and modules
3. Develop and deliver Epic training programs for clinical staff
4. Create and maintain Epic documentation templates, order sets, and decision support tools
5. Serve as liaison between clinical departments and IT, translating clinical requirements into Epic configurations
6. Monitor Epic system performance and troubleshoot issues affecting clinical operations
7. Generate and analyze reports from Epic to support quality improvement initiatives
8. Participate in Epic testing and validation to ensure patient safety and data integrity
9. Stay current on Epic upgrades, enhancements, and best practices
10. Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge: 

1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Health Informatics, or related clinical field
2. Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting
3. Demonstrated understanding of clinical workflows and processes within Epic
4. Proficient in Epic EHR systems and applications
5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills specific to Epic functionality
6. Excellent project management abilities for Epic implementation projects
7. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
8. Experience in Epic data analysis and reporting
9. Strong verbal and written communication skills
10. Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
11. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
12. Experience maintaining confidentiality with sensitive information
13. Ability to travel 20% or as needed

Preferred Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge: 

1. Master’s degree in Health Informatics, Nursing Informatics, or related field
2. Current Epic certification in one or more clinical modules
3. Epic Credentialed Trainer status
4. Experience with Epic reporting tools (Clarity, Cogito, Caboodle)
5. Prior experience in Epic implementation or optimization projects
6. Knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements and how they impact Epic configuration (HIPAA, Meaningful Use)
