Job Title: Summer Trail Maintenance Technician

Location: Homewood Mountain Resort, CA

Department: Mountain Operations

Reports To: Trail Maintenance Supervisor

Position Type: Seasonal, Full-Time (Summer)

Rate (hourly): $24-$26 

 

Job Summary:

Homewood Mountain Resort is seeking motivated and safety-conscious individuals to join our Mountain Operations team as Summer Trail Maintenance Technicians. This position plays a vital role in ensuring our trail systems are maintained, safe, and ready for guests during the summer hiking and biking season—and prepared for winter operations. Technicians work outdoors in varied mountain terrain and weather conditions, performing trail upkeep, erosion control, vegetation management, and infrastructure repair.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform regular maintenance on hiking and biking trails, including clearing debris, managing drainage, repairing erosion, and fuels reduction.

Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and small machinery (e.g., chainsaws, trimmers, ATVs).

Install and maintain trail signage, fencing, and safety barriers as needed.

Conduct daily safety checks and hazard assessments of trail systems.

Support environmental conservation efforts such as revegetation and habitat protection.

Assist in building or improving trail features (e.g., bridges, berms, retaining structures).

Respond promptly to trail safety concerns or hazards reported by staff or guests.

Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all resort safety protocols and procedures.

Work closely with other departments, including Mountain Safety and Patrol, to ensure guest safety and trail readiness.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Capable of performing physically demanding tasks in mountainous terrain and variable weather.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Preferred:

Previous experience in trail maintenance, landscaping, forestry, or related field.

Familiarity with trail-building tools and techniques.

Chainsaw certification or willingness to obtain.

First Aid/CPR certification.

Work Conditions:

Outdoor work in all summer weather conditions, including heat, rain, and rugged terrain.

Lifting, carrying, and using tools or materials weighing up to 50 lbs.

Regular hiking and extended periods on foot or on uneven ground.

Schedule may include weekends and holidays.
