Job Title: Prep Cook/General Kitchen Aide
Reports to: Director of Food Services
Status: Non-exempt Part-time, Academic Year EmployeeÂ
Start date is August 8th 2025 and works through early-June 2026.
Position Overview
This position offers general support within a high school food services department that serves lunch throughout the academic year. The Prep Cook/General Kitchen Aide is part of a close-knit, experienced team that prepares meals for approximately 650 students and staff each school day. The team provides a well-regarded lunch program that includes a daily hot entrée, a full salad bar, and sandwich options, contributing to a vibrant and appreciated food culture within the school community.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Duties
- Assist with daily food prep for both current and next-day service
- Ensure all food is prepared and ready on time
- Stock and organize deliveries as needed
- Set up and restock the salad bar
- Operate the cashier station and cover front-of-house duties as needed
- Bus dishes and assist with dish room operations
- Support afternoon clean-up and end-of-day kitchen breakdown
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, cooking areas, and service equipment
- Assist with inventory tracking and management
- Support menu planning and preparation as directed
- Respond to questions about food ingredients, preparation methods, and potential allergens
- Greet students, staff, and guests with professionalism and courtesy
- Perform other duties as assigned

Job Specific Qualifications
- Must be able to speak and understand English, especially as related to work and instructions in the kitchen; bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus!Â
- ServSafe Food Safety Certification required (school will cover the cost if obtained within 30 days of hire)
- Strong knife skills with a desire to continue developing culinary techniques
- Genuine enthusiasm for preparing food from scratch
- Dependable, collaborative team player
- Maintain a consistently positive and friendly attitude
- Ability to stand for up to 7–8 hours during a work shift
- Frequently walk, bend, stoop, and twist at the neck
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Regular use of hands and arms for reaching, handling, and repetitive motions involving fingers, hands, and arms
