Description

The Mill Operator 1 performs the day-to-day operations of the shift, ensuring activities in the New Mill are being completed safely, effectively, and accurately. This is an entry level position but with a high degree of responsibility. The operator will train under other Mill Operators to learn the functions of and become competent with all equipment in the New Mill building. The MO1 will collaborate with other Mill Operators to respond and adapt to changing batches of product and orders to help ensure the success of machinery and production. The operators also maintain GMP standards and perform quality procedures to uphold SQF initiatives. Mill Operators are responsible for keeping accurate records and documentation of all operational activities. Reports to the Production Supervisor.

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Meet production schedules, support operations, and improve efficiency of the line alongside the Team Lead, other Mill Operators, and Production Supervisor
  • Collaborate with Maintenance to troubleshoot and repair the equipment on the production line to keep line running
  • Proven competency in the position of Bagger in the Pack-Out building is required; may be asked to bag to assist production if necessary
  • Train with other Mill Operators to thoroughly learn all New Mill equipment/machines, including function, basic upkeep, process flow, and optimization
  • Maintain work orders and actions items through company’s production software
  • Verify accuracy of production orders for bagged products.
  • Responsible to test products for specification compliance in a timely manner and make adjustments as needed for Quality/SQF standards; may be asked to assist QA lab if necessary
  • Ensure all required documentation is complete and accurate, to be returned to the Production Supervisor before end of each shift and stored in the company production software
  • Maintain GMP standards and follow all requirements within the company HACCP plan
  • Uphold and enforce all safety requirements for self, co-workers, visitors, and equipment at all times; responsible to identify and improve areas of concern, report incidents, and champion workplace safety policies and initiatives
  • Ensure all equipment is cleaned and stored properly, all garbage and feed waste containers are emptied daily, and all scheduled cleaning assignments are completed on time and documented
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Experience: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Forklift certified or ability to become certified
  • Must be a detailed-oriented individual with the ability to organize and follow direction
  • Basic knowledge of relevant computer applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, and spreadsheet software 
  • Ability to perform baic shop math: add, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers common fractions, and decimals
  • Certificate for Milling Flour Technician or other flour milling experience preferred, but not required
  • Advanced mechanicial competency relating to the equipment listed below preferred
  • Farmwork relating to harvest or general agricultural experience a plus

 

Equipment:

Below is a list of some equipment that we use in our facility.  Not all of our equipment will be listed below - this is meant for an overview.

  • Industrial Food processing equipment
    • Hammermill, sifter, flaker, grain cleaning, pneumatic blowers, airlocks, slide gates, etc.
  • Power Equipment, Forklifts, Stand up forklifts, Powered walk behind pallet jacks.
  • Stretch wrapping machines, bagging equipment and conveyors

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Frequently required to stand; walk; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; and to talk; or hear. Ability to lift and/ or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color and depth vision. Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock or vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud. Exposure to allergens such as Soy, Wheat, Tree Nuts, Milk/Dairy, eggs etc.
