Position Summary:
Saint Andrew’s School is seeking a Performing Arts Instructor responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth; and for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic and artistic success.  

This position will be responsible for teaching a combination of dance and theatre classes to students in grades 4-12, and will also support choreography for the fall Novemberfest and spring Celebration of Dance. A qualified candidate may also have opportunities to direct plays or musicals and/or to help choreograph the Lower, Middle, and Upper School musicals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement curriculum in alignment with department expectations
  • Implement instructional activities that actively engage students in meaningful learning
  • Collaborate with departmental colleagues to best support students in the Theatre and Dance productions and performances 
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents and colleagues on a regular basis
  • Create Performing Arts course documentation as determined by the divisional expectations, working to vertically align curriculum
  • Collaborate with the Director of Performing Arts to verify student eligibility and communicate course requirements
  • Regularly attend all Division, Department,  and Production meetings
  • Serve as an advisor
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Performing Arts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Master’s degree preferred 
  • Outstanding teaching skills, with a minimum of 5 years teaching experience preferred
  • At least three years teaching in an independent school or equivalent experience
  • A strong background in curriculum and instruction in discipline specific content
  • Possess a collegiality and willingness to collaborate with colleagues
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote an inclusive school culture
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to a growth mindset and continuous professional development

Physical Demands:  Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, and for the majority of the work day. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds.
