What are we looking for in a Behavioral Health Specialist?
As part of the Corrections and Diversion teams, this person identifies individuals that have law enforcement contact and have a behavioral health disorder that is currently causing distress and/or contributing to the reason for the law enforcement contact. Advocates for referring the individual to the Behavioral Health Diversion Program, the Crisis Triage Center and/or helps to reestablish connection with a current treatment team in an effort to avoid arrest. Coordinates with other behavioral health diversion programs, including Pre-Trial and Mental Health Court, in an effort to refer individuals that are incarcerated and reduce the amount of time spent in the jail while linking them with behavioral health services. Coordinates with the Corrections Team and the Intensive Community Support Team to ensure that individuals receive services in the jail and immediately upon release.

Behavioral Health Specialist duties may include:
- identifying and referring individuals for appropriate treatment Â
- coordinating with jail services, crisis services, Comprehensive Healthcare programs, and other community providers to ensure continuity of care
- advocating for community treatment for incarcerated individuals
- acting as liaison between corrections, judicial, and treatment services
- assessing clients for safety and risk to self or others, and taking appropriate crisis intervention measures when indicated
- assisting in treatment planning with clients and treatment teams
- completing all required clinical documentation in a timely and client-centered manner
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or related field
- Must be eligible for registration as Agency Affiliated Counselor
- In compliance with state and federal law, Comprehensive Healthcare requires all candidates to complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug screen and background check. Please refer to WAC 388-113-0020 through 388-113-0030 for information on criminal convictions and pending charges that automatically disqualify an individual from working for Comprehensive Healthcare.
