Assistant Professor of Biology/Microbiology

Illinois College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biology with a focus on microbiology and human health to begin August 2026.

The ideal candidate will be committed to excellence in undergraduate education in the classroom and laboratory, and be enthusiastic about contributing to a first-year science curriculum for both nursing and biology majors.  Primary teaching duties include introductory microbiology, general biology, and courses in health sciences. There are opportunities to develop new courses in the area of the candidate’s specialization.  The successful candidate will provide research opportunities for Illinois College undergraduates in microbiology or a closely related field.  Undergraduate research is a critical component of the mission of the Illinois College Biology Department.   

Doctorate (or ABD) in biology, with a preference for emphasis in microbiology.
