Illinois College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in the Sociology and Criminal Justice department with a specialty in Criminology to begin in Fall 2026.
The primary responsibilities include teaching courses in Criminology and Social Problems, as well as special topics courses based on the candidate’s expertise. Preference for ability to teach introductory sociology. Additionally, we seek candidates with expertise and/or interest in leading an interdisciplinary program and making connections with the larger community. We are particularly interested in candidates whose pedagogy emphasizes a collaborative approach to the criminal justice system that engages the expertise of community professionals to support accountability, rehabilitation, and successful reentry. The successful candidate will advise and mentor undergraduate students, particularly those preparing for careers in criminology and criminal justice. Engaging in research with students and contributing to the department’s growing Criminal Justice program are also key components of this role. Participation in departmental, college, and community service is expected.
Doctorate or ABD strongly preferred, in sociology or a related field; master’s degree considered with strong experience.
