Illinois College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Education with a focus on curriculum, instruction, and methods to begin August 2026, with preference for an emphasis on K-6 grades.
The ideal candidate will be committed to excellence in undergraduate education and teacher preparation, both in person and online. Primary teaching duties include introductory and advanced courses in elementary education, curriculum and instruction, and general education studies. There are opportunities to develop new courses in the candidate’s area of specialization and to contribute to the department’s growing online post-baccalaureate licensure program. The successful candidate will also supervise student teachers and contribute to aligning coursework with evolving state standards, including the Illinois Professional Educator Standards and the Illinois Comprehensive Literacy Plan.
Completed doctorate strongly preferred; advanced candidates or master’s degree with relevant experience considered. Candidates with K–12 teaching licensure, and recent college teaching experience, are strongly encouraged to apply.Â
Illinois College seeks candidates who have a commitment to working closely with a wide range of students. Currently, our population is approximately one-quarter students of color and 30% first-generation college students. Eagerness and ability to work with these populations is essential. Equally important is excellence in pedagogy and an openness to student-centered teaching approaches.
Founded by abolitionists, Illinois College was the first in Illinois to graduate students and hosts a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. The College is student-focused, offering numerous opportunities for faculty-student interaction beyond the classroom, including collaborative research, international study-travel, and mentoring. Located in historic Jacksonville, Illinois—just 30 miles from Springfield and 70 miles from St. Louis—Illinois College has been transforming lives since 1829.
