Grants Manager  - Position Summary

This position will work closely with the Director of Foundations and Corporate Giving and Development team. More than 35% of FLY’s budget comes from foundation grants. Individual donations, event fundraising, and government grants also contribute to the organization’s sustainability and Imagine 2030 strategic plan. The Grants Manager will play a critical role in supporting the strategic plan through the execution of fund development activities specifically through grants management, grant writing and reporting, and stewardship of relationships with key funders.

Position Responsibilities:

Proposal Development and Writing

• Develop, prepare, write, and edit compelling grant proposals for foundations. Prepare multiple, simultaneous proposals for on-time submission under tight and shifting deadlines, while maintaining a consistently high standard of quality.
• Develop, prepare, write, and edit grant reports for foundations. Prepare multiple, simultaneous reports for on-time submission under tight and shifting deadlines, while maintaining a consistently high standard of quality.
• Maintain, draft, and/or compile documents required for foundation proposals and reports, including but not limited to staff biographies, financial documents, or youth impact stories.
• Develop and maintain expert knowledge of FLY programs and services in order to prepare accurate and persuasive funding requests and reports. 
• Work with other FLY leaders and/or contracted grant writers during busy seasons to ensure that all renewals and reports are submitted on time and that FLY is able to seek support from new foundation partners.
• Communicate and collaborate with other FLY teams and departments—including but not limited to program teams, Finance Department, the Evaluation & Learning Department, and Systems Change Department—related to foundation applications and reports.

Research and Prospecting

• Conduct research to
  •  Develop and maintain knowledge of and expertise in policies and theories concerning juvenile justice systems and youth, evidence-based practices employed in FLY’s programs, and justice system landscape. 
  • Provide supporting information for grant proposals.
  • Identify new prospects and funding opportunities.
  • Vet prospective funders, and maintain updated lists of top funder prospects 

• Develop and maintain knowledge of FLY’s programs, initiatives, and organizational priorities in order to develop compelling funding applications.

• Assess alignment between funders’ priorities and FLY’s programs and initiatives

Relationship Stewardship and Management

• Collaborate with the Development team to cultivate relationships and pursue funding opportunities.
• Lead meetings and collaborate with the Director of Foundations & Corporate Giving to  maintain strong relationships with current and prospective foundation partners.
• Track relationships stewardship efforts and contribute to relationship strategy through Salesforce and other tracking tools.
• Draft communications such as thank you letters to funders or email templates for CEO and Development leadership to prospect funders.

Data Systems and Management

• Maintain a calendar of renewals, applications, and reports due.
• Maintain Grant-related data in Salesforce and other tracking tools.
• Track and report foundation revenue data. 
• In collaboration with the Development and Finance teams, maintain clear records payments and incoming funds.
• With close partnership from the Director of Foundations & Corporate Giving, manage the pipeline of foundation grants including research, strategy, application, award, and post-award.

Compensation & Benefits

This position is a full-time/exempt role at a rate of $82,026/annually. Our Total Rewards Package also includes the following:
