Position Summary:
The Ambulance Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and improvement of ambulance vehicles to meet safety, regulatory, and customer specifications. This role involves working closely with operations, manufacturing, vendors, and regulatory bodies to ensure that ambulance designs are functional, compliant, cost-effective, and innovative.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop ambulance layouts, components, and systems (electrical, mechanical, and structural).
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., KKK-A-1822 F as amended, CAAS GVS 4.0 standards).
- Remain well-informed regarding applicable FMVSS, NHTSA, SAE, and NTEA AMD standards.
- Collaborate with operations, manufacturing, and vendors to incorporate feedback into designs.
- Prepare and maintain engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical documentation.
- Conduct design reviews, testing, and validation of ambulance components and systems.
- Recommend improvements for safety, ergonomics, and efficiency in ambulance design.
- Provide technical support to production and service teams as needed.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and regulations relevant to emergency vehicles.

Work Environment:
- Primarily office and shop floor environment with occasional travel to vendors or customer sites.
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, procurement, and compliance.
