The Welding Supervisor is a key member of the welding operational team. The supervisor is accountable for leading the shift in the pursuit of efficient, quality product in the welding booths. Responsibilities may include: management of inventory, issuing jobs, assisting with production scheduling and planning, selection, onboarding and training of new employees, employee performance and attendance management, continuous improvement initiatives, safety management, ensuring quality of team's work, and collaboration with other departments,Â
Key Job Responsibilities
- Supervision of production processes and team members including grinder/finishers, spot welders, laser welders, MIG/TIG welders, and robotic welding.Â
- Has a productive positive attitude always refraining from any negativity and requires the same from their team
- Provides training of all leads and oversees training of new staff.Â
- Provides developmentally appropriate feedback to team to improve quality, productivity, and skills.
- Monitors employee's schedules, attendance, performance, and growth and ensures proper documentation through the employee life-cycle.
- Ability to read, interpret, and teach the reading of blueprints, job orders, BOMs, and other production related documents.Â
- Ensures posting and inventory changes are completed via computer or handheld scanners accurately and following real-time transactions matching physical movements
- Conducts in-process inspections and verifications of finished parts to ascertain continuous quality conformance.
- Reports problems or concerns with quality, processes, equipment, materials, and labor to plant manager or appropriate personnel.Â
- Is familiar with different welding techniques, robotic welding, and laser welding, and can perform initial troubleshooting of equipment.
- Must be willing to help or operate any open positions when short staffed.Â
- Safely moves material using pallet jack or forklift with certification.
- Communicates effectively with other workers to direct personal workflow.
- Promotes teamwork, effective communication, and adherence to company policies, process, and procedures. Â
- All other duties as assigned by management.
Education and Experience
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent may be required. Welding education preferred.Â
- A minimum of 3 years managing a production based welding team.Â
- Strong MIG and TIG welding skills required, as well as the ability to communicate these process techniques to others.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively implement or respond to change.
- Safety conscious behavior.
- Must have strong decision-making skills - utilizing reporting and experience to make data-driven decisions.Â
- Proficient with computers including Microsoft Office, MRP/ERP systems, inventory tracking and employee/HRIS systems.Â
- Must have good mechanical knowledge.
