ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS:
- Provide instruction: Teach skiing or snowboarding during assigned days, nights, and time periods in accordance with Ski School guidelines.
- Deliver guest service: Offer excellent service to all guests and serve as a positive representative of both Mission Ridge and the Ski School.
- Participate in training: Attend both mandatory and voluntary training sessions to continually improve performance and teaching ability.
- Complete assigned duties: Take full responsibility for designated work assignments and scheduling requirements.
- Provide mountain information: Be familiar with and share general mountain information with guests.
- Maintain knowledge: Stay informed about teaching practices, snow sports products, and Ski School procedures.
- Report incidents: Promptly notify supervisors of any incidents and complete necessary forms with accuracy.
- Foster cooperation: Support and collaborate with coworkers, other instructors, and all Mission Ridge departments.
- Work in winter conditions: Operate in a challenging outdoor mountain environment, including cold, wind, and snow.
- Use physical effort: Regularly lift and move equipment and assist students, requiring moderate physical exertion.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Teaching experience: Ability to effectively communicate techniques and encourage learning for guests of all ages and ability levels.
- Guest service mindset: Maintain a friendly, helpful, and professional attitude while interacting with students and families.
- Snow sports proficiency: Must ski or snowboard at an intermediate level or higher (minimum Level 6).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Affiliation with PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) or another recognized instructional organization is preferred. Experience teaching or coaching groups, particularly children, is highly valued. Additional qualifications in education, early childhood instruction, or pre-school settings are beneficial. Applicants must be capable intermediate skiers or snowboarders at minimum.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Instructors must be able to ski or snowboard for several hours at a time, assist students with equipment, and demonstrate techniques clearly. The role involves frequent bending, lifting, and supporting students of varying sizes. Strong stamina, balance, and agility are essential, along with the ability to communicate instructions effectively while in motion.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Instructors spend the majority of their shift outdoors in variable mountain conditions, including cold temperatures, wind, snow, and limited visibility. The work setting is dynamic and fast-paced, with frequent interaction with guests, parents, and other staff. Instructors should be comfortable working on busy slopes, adapting to changing weather, and maintaining professionalism in a high-energy, guest-focused environment.

-Consistent and constant standing and walking while in operation.
Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: REGULARLY
-The position requires the ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, kneel, stoop, and crouch for extended periods.
Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: FREQUENTLY
-Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: OCCASIONALLY
-Must be able to write, type, and use phone system
